Mitt: “Frankly at this early stage, polls go up, polls go down”

Romney ‘Pleased With Some Polls, Less So With Others’

Speaking to ABC News Wednesday evening, Mitt Romney said he wasn't sweating the large swath of swing state polling showing him trailing President Obama, but that some polls did give him pause:

On the same day that polls in two key battleground states — Ohio and Florida — showed President Obama growing his lead over Mitt Romney, the Republican presidential candidate acknowledged that he is “pleased with some polls, less so with other polls.”

“Frankly at this early stage, polls go up, polls go down,” Romney said in an interview on Wednesday with ABC’s David Muir on the campaign trail in Toledo, Ohio.

"Early stage"?

Evidently, Mittwit's planning a comeback a few weeks from now, sometime between mid October and Election Day.

He lies so much that he's probably the most honest republican out there right now. Paradox sure. But my thought is becasue he can't keep up with his lies from one day to the next, sooner or later he slips up and reveals DEEP DEEP DEEP republican secrets that are never spoken. He shows the country all the secret handshakes and codes of his secret elitist fraternal society called the republican party. His loose lips leads to slips that go to the root of what the Republicans REALLY stands for unlike any other national candidate/national figure. He doesn't even really attempt to wade into the faux Culture wars that previous Republican candidates have so succesfully used and exploited. His bullshit is right there out in the open. And that's what makes him probably more honest, through his lies, than just about any other national republican.

"Evidently, Mittwit's planning a comeback a few weeks from now, sometime between mid October and Election Day."

Thats why i wrote the above on this thread. He's already tipping his hand to something big that he plans to unleash. That stockpile of SuperPAC money... that makes him have the belief that the games are just beggining. Thats my take. His October suprises.

While he's whining about polls going up and down. He has never been in the lead. A scattered poll here and there closing the gap, but never a lead.

He's in lala land.

Welcome.

The undecideds have mostly decided. I have a feeling the debates wont have much impact because people are already tired of politics and just wish this was over with now and wont even tune in.

Absolutely correct. Actually, I think that's been correct for most of this election season. What's changing is that this once looked like an election for which only angry white conservatives were going to show up to vote; as we've gotten closer to the election, the President's supporters have gotten more enthusiastic, while his detractors have gotten less-so.

I have a feeling the debates wont have much impact because people are already tired of politics and just wish this was over with now and wont even tune in.

The debates, like the conventions, have far fewer viewers since most Americans have gotten 70+ channels to watch on TV. Given a choice, many people will tune into Honey Boo Boo. However, if any debate will be watched, it will be the first one. This is partly because it is first, party because it is the domestic policy debate, and partly because people will tune in to see if there are any major gaffes or fireworks. Rmoney's only real hope is to make a huge splash in the debates. In order to do that, he has to make people interested enough to watch the debates. In order to do that, he's going to have to try to stir things up in debate #1.

Whatever the campaign plans to use as the new attack line for the next 5 weeks will be rolled out. I would not be surprised if Rmoney gets rude -- loudly interrupts the President during an answer; calls the President a liar to his face; goes birther; or something similarly obnoxious. This will ostensibly serve several purposes; firing up the wingnut base; trying to break out of the wimp mold; and desperately trying to change the election narrative.

I'm not saying it will work. Rmoney hasn't proven adept at campaigning up to now, and it's better than 50/50 that whatever he says blows up in his face. I'm saying that it's his last chance. Early voting starts next week; if he can't come up with a game changer, he's done. The superpacs will shift spending to states where GOP Senate chances look promising, and invest there.

like as you suggest interrupting the President and claiming he is not telling the truth. It wont work because the President does not get flustered and will be ready for all possible idiotic tactics he might try. Most likely the President will just ignore him and keep talking and make Romney look like an idiot.
