The Republican Apologists Weighting Argument Doesn't Make Any Sense
Dick Morris and many other Republican apologists are arguing that the majority of polls showing a substantial Obama national lead and in the swing states is a function of pollsters including too many Democrats or too many minorities. The latter is a immutable characteristic. Race and sex doesn't fluctuate. Pollsters do weight their results according to those characteristics. They make sure those groups are polled but where Morris and other Republican apologists are incorrect or intentionally misleading is suggesting the pollsters assume those groups are going to vote in the same percentage as their percentage of the population. They ask them if they are registered and if they are going to vote. For instance, Latinos comprise nearly seventeen of the nation. Nobody believes they will comprise seventeen percent of the electorate. *
Regards to weighting by political party, reputable pollster don't arbitrarily guess how many Democrats, Republicans, and Independents will be voting. They ask them.
*As an aside when Latinos start voting in numbers which match their percentage of the population the entire nation will be voting like California. For a Republican this has to be frightening.
