...rather than waiting for the mail-in ballots.
That would take away his strategy of declaring victory the night of the election.
Perhaps more Democrats should be encouraged to vote in person?

(26,257 posts)I've never encountered a really long line at my precinct, and I'll be heading there at about 9 - book in hand, just in case.
I'll just feel better watching my ballot go into the scanner, registering my vote but I have no expectation we'll know the results for a couple of days, minimum. I hope I'm wrong, and I can pop the cork on that bubbly sooner rather than later.

(54,330 posts)I think his popular vote margin of victory will even top Hillary's. That STILL does not guarantee he will be declared the winner. Republican electoral fraud has been honed to a fine art form. As we have seen with the Postal Service, they are very creative in devising ways to make our votes NOT count.
As for voting in person, it MUST be accepted that some, even many, just CAN'T make it in person. Dallas is 5000 miles from where I'll be on Election Day. I can't just charter a Space Shuttle for the round trip

(15,568 posts)Trump cant win without Florida, and they tally their absentee ballots as they are received, so the results can be released immediately after the polls close.
Although we are all expecting not to know who the winner is on Election Night, if the Florida absentee ballots show Biden with a decent 5+% lead, it will be hard for the networks to ignore or resist calling it.
Bloombergs $100 million is going to be vital.

(15,568 posts)The streets would fill, and Trump would likely lose a court battle over jurisdiction, as it would be up to the FL SOS and AG to pursue a fraud investigation, not DOJ.

(17,615 posts)..so we are used to waiting for the results. During the primaries, my husband ran for a local office and our small county took THREE days for us to know who won. And the incumbent (who lost!) was ahead for the first full day.
It will be a nail biter but nothing we cant overcome....
...but I agree. If someone feels safe going in to vote in person, then do it. We need the early results. Before we were all mail-in, my polling place was a 120 yr old country school house. There were always more poll workers than voters in there at one time...and it was in the gym so they could have socially distanced 20 feet.

(73,528 posts)votes that night. Then Trump will insist all the mail-in votes need to be counted. And Biden's lead will grow substantially.
Per voting in person: we should never react to our opposition. Instead, we respond. For many, voting in person poses a health risk. They (including me) should vote in the manner that best meets our individual needs. What Trump says should not be a factor, for we already know he will lie no matter what.

(34,857 posts)Hence why I said generally - and the states that don't are not states being contested. If anything, Biden is going to have an early significant lead in many of these states due to early voting.
