It's pretty clear that this will be his tactic in the final 6 weeks. He's been bypassing campaigning to raise more wads of money and his Super Pacs are flush. He's already sent out more than a million anti-Obama cds. He has a new negative ad out called "Mute". I think that over the next weeks we'll see an avalanche of vile ads from him and his cronies.
He's dedicated a lot of time already to debate prep. My guess is he's madly studying Reagan and that he'll attempt to be affable and to deliver a knock out blow a la "There you go again".
I don't see him succeeding.
