I think that we should press Russia to get the eastern provinces, whose peoples are expressing grievances including language, economic, and political suppression. (Putin probably took Voice of America away from us to slow our advance. Biden has to kick out Trumpsters in VOA.) Because of our democratic system, the eastern provinces would find a political association (including statehood) much more attractive than remaining with an autocratic (Putin) Russia.
That has to frighten Putin. He could make a political mistake that would break the eastern provinces off of Russia. Considering that the Russian military is weak, it may not be able to put the egg back together again. The eastern provinces would be open to attractive offers of union from China and USA.
Siberia is standing up to remote control by Putin, and that has to be a problem for him. Putin needs Alaska for pressuring (attacking?) from the eastern shore.
