before classes even started after they broke coronavirus rules and threw parties.

2. Good. There should be consequences. How many people will get seriously ill or die? What penalties

will they suffer if someone does actually die, from attending one of these parties, when I am sure, the media was full of stories that crowds shouldn't gather, etc., to avoid exposure, and thus, the students themselves have no one to blame but themselves?

Just watch, they will try and blame everyone else but themselves.

6. My Daughter is a Freshman there

She tells me that the number went up to 288 but they are reviewing many cases and will be reversing some that were incorrectly caught up in the sweep. Nevertheless they are taking it seriously and clearly are making an example of those kids.

They just released their baseline numbers earlier this week after testing everyone that showed up on campus and their starting numbers are pretty good considering the large group of people gathering from all over. Those testing positive are in isolation and they are continuing a pretty significant testing program.

It remains to be seen whether they can pull it off. They have some of the most stringent protocols of any place i have seen outside of a medical setting. It is sad that they canceled sports but it speaks to the fact that they are focused on the education while trying to eliminate unnecessary risks.

I am glad my daughter is there. College is more than book learning. Even though the vast majority of the classes are online, she is still in a community that will bolster that book learning in ways that I cannot replicate at home for her. I have already seen growth in her in the few weeks she has been there simply by living on her own, being responsible for her own well being, meeting new people, etc.

I know these college kids are being hammered for some bad decisions. I try to be compassionate by remembering two things. Number one, I was a responsible, smart and mature kid and yet I still blew off my first hurricane warning with a party. Looking back, a significant storm could have killed me considering where I lived. I should have known better and I had no excuse but it is difficult to really evaluate risk at that age. Second, many of these kids probably come from households where every authority figure from the parents to the TV to the President have told them not to worry. It isn't surprising if they don't take it seriously if no one in their responsibility chain-of-command does.
