If the Democrats regain the Presidency...

...and if they take both the House and Senate, should they repeal the "filibuster rule"?

I say "if" because I do not have the certainty that some might have.

But, in my opinion, it they do regain the power, I think they should repeal the "filibuster rule", at least temporarily.

Because, even with the minority, the Republicans will attempt to block everything the Democrats need to do to get the country back on the right track. They will obstruct everything, just as they have done in the past.

The only way to prevent that is to pass legislation with a simple majority. We have already seen how quick the Republicans were to appoint Supreme Court Justices with a simple majority.

If the Democrats are fortunate enough to win with landslide numbers, they may be able to hold onto the House and Senate for several elections? Of course, that is never a guarantee.

There are a lot of problems that need to be fixed. Ideally, Republicans would join with Democrats to fix them, but that is nothing we would want to bet on.

Once the country was back on the right track, the Democrats could vote to restore the filibuster rule, preferably before the next election.

Would the Republicans be for it or against it? If they thought they were going to win, they would be against restoring the filibuster rule. If they thought their odds were too long, they might agree to restore it? Either way, the Democrats would put the decision back in their laps.

It would not be an easy decision.

1. I still wish someone would explain to me why when Democrats get the presidency AND

both parts of Congress, we have to always have a "supermajority" to get anything done. Republicans NEVER have to do that. Why are we allowing them to make special rules for us then sticking to their rules? Why not change their stupid rules set up especially to stop Democrats when we get control. They always get their way with a simple majority, but we always have to have so much more. It is ridiculous.

We've got way too much to fix and republicans have treated us like dirt so why on earth would we let them throw a spanner in the works?

- popular vote win margin by Biden
- electoral vote margin by Biden
- number of Senate seats democrats pick up.
a clear electoral MANDATE is the deciding factor for sure

IF democrats are in the 55-57 seat range in the Senate which is very possible, I see Schumer changing the 60 vote rule to say, 55 AND limiting the use of a filibuster. If the margin is less, then the choice is limiting what the filibuster can be used on. I do not see elimination under any scenario.

7. Removing the filibuster is only part of a Master Plan...

Statehood for Puerto Rico and the D.C.
Universal voting.
Fair apportionment in Congressional districts to end gerrymandering.
Repeal of Citizens United.
End of the Electoral college.

If the Dems have the balls, they can kick the grisly remains of the Republican Party to the curb.

9. We need an unquestionable MANDATE.

With that, the filibuster easily gets kicked to the curb with support of the public.

Then, immediately, impeach judges who merit impeachment, which will be mostly repub appointees.
Then, immediately, FIX the outlandish voting system we have -- no more electoral college, gerrymandering is out, universal, easy, paper ballot voting is in.
Once those roadblocks are removed, we can:

Tackle environmental concerns, and economic and social injustice.


To get a mandate, we have to get everyone to vote blue, even in states where it "doesn't matter". Your blue vote counts towards the mandate regardless of whether the state goes blue or red. This is not a time to be voting third party either.

Break them first.
Simply take the most broadly popular backed up legislation and dare them to filibuster. Make them take the hard vote right away. Focus on legistaion that will split them by region with an eye to the 2022 Senate Class.
