I don't want to derail the other thread about priorities, but it seems to me that one thing the government needs to do is figure out a way to make public officials accountable for their actions. Like the ones who ignored Congressional subpoenas, like the ones who acted like what they are (assholes) during hearings, and so on and on. Seems like right now the only recourse for much of this is to suck it up and maybe file a lawsuit and then wait a couple of years for the bullshit to repeat again.
It's getting fucking ridiculous.

(15,700 posts)All the crimes of the Trump administration MUST be investigated and prosecuted- including everyone including ICE contractors who were just following orders.
Biden must follow through on this while building back better.
Things wont get better unless we ensure this will never happen again.

If we don't take strong, public steps to repair the guardrails of a functioning democracy - including holding these criminals and grifters accountable for their crimes - then all that will happen is that the Right will throw fire bomb after fire bomb for four years, and the so called "liberal" media will amplify that messaging and then we will be BACK HERE in four years. Our failure to push on things like Iran Contra or the Iraq war in the past has only taught these thugs that they can get away with anything with no consequences. We must make examples of the worst violators if the Right is to learn that they have to change their ways, or at least scurry back under the rocks again.
