Inaccuracies and misplaced towns and cities in Apple's new map software have provoked anger from users.
In June Apple announced it would stop using Google Maps in favour of its own system, created using data from navigation specialist TomTom.
Apple is yet to comment on the complaints about the software, which comes already installed on the new iPhone.
TomTom said it provided only data and was not responsible for how it worked.

Just go to maps.google.com and add it to your home screen.
Not quite the same as the old map app but it will suffice
until either Apple fixes the map or Google release their own app.
On edit: looks like walking directions are there but they are buried a bit

(6,129 posts)I have reported 5 problems with mapping since yesterday afternoon. Apple has a long way to go on this area, but expect they will fairly quickly since its database driven.
It reminds me of Google Maps in iOS 3.1 or so. I was always reporting problems to them, too. Google still has a lot of problems, but is much superior to Apple at the moment.
Apple really needs to get the mass transit support from somewhere and integrated in. But Google is very frustrating to use with mass transit, can't seem to match mixed systems, and totally screws up walking times and distance. It likes to find short bus segments with long walks on each end and not count the walking times!

And that applies to ANY technology - this is not specific to Apple or any other company.
