(67,782 posts)...in our backyard. We get maybe three or four roses a year on it. When we got home from my mother's funeral several years ago, there was one fully bloomed rose on it, a month before we ever got any!
My mother's hobby was roses - she had 50 bushes in her backyard.

(31,261 posts)I am a Deist, I believe in a higher presence, just not the way Christians do.
I believe that the early rose bud was a sign that your Mom had lived a life of choosing the right options when Fate presented her with choices. I wish that everyone would do that, if that was the case, the world would be a wonderful place.

(67,782 posts)I could go on forever with examples, but here's one simple one....
For years they kept old coats and other clothes in the trunk of their car. If they saw a poor homeless person freezing, they'd stop, give him a coat and tuck a few bucks in his hand.
My father was an atheist, but through the way he lived his life I hope he "got a pass" for that in light of everything he did in that life.

(31,261 posts)our Universe and beyond. Those descriptions of people are constructs that people through the ages have made up and embellished, often as a means for declaring superiority over others. I believe that we get our heaven or hell at our moment of death, and that it matters that a person was kind and caring toward people and other life here. So, a person professing to being a devout Christian, or Muslim, or Buddhist, etc, means nothing if that person hasnt lived a core life of really caring about and caring for others, displaying daily the charity of spirit that requires.
