And I still believe she would be responsible and stylish.

(25,920 posts)She's only been out in public once in recent months, to knight Tom Moore, the 100 year old man who raised millions of pounds for the NIH. And she wasn't wearing a mask then.
Kind of cute picture, but not reality.

(26,310 posts)I still have no doubt she would be masked if in public. But, the reality is, it is probably too much of a risk with Prince Philip being in not so good health. Well, pretty damn good health for 99, but....................

(25,920 posts)pictures with me I knew immediately it couldn't possibly be real. I tend to be highly skeptical of almost everything.

(26,310 posts)My week has started out with a massive disappointment, and I don't anticipate things improving.

(25,920 posts)knighting Captain Tom Moore will help.

(26,310 posts)Sir Anthony Hopkins, Sir Michael Caine, and (gag) Clint Eastwood have shown interest in portraying him. My vote goes to Sir Anthony.

(9,656 posts)I had only seen photos of the occasion. It was lovely to see the ceremony, and to hear some of what they said. Darned cameras clicking!
Sir Tom Moore is one incredible man! It is amazing what he did.
For Sir Tom Moore.

The current Queen Consort of the Belgians, and former Speech Language Pathologist, is lovely, as always. Her husband, King Philippe, is quite handsome. Note his coordinating tie!

(11,949 posts)If other countries want to be subjects rather than citizens that is their prerogative. But the more I learn about these grifters the more disgusted I become. And the more proud I am my ancestors fought to throw them out of this country.
Yeah, I get they are good for tourism. But guess what country gets the most visitors every year? France. And they gave their royalty what they deserved.
Not sorry at all if I offended anyone. Im an American. No one is born my better. Or anyones better. Ill be god damned it I bowed to anyone or call anyone your highness. Or any bullshit like that.
She would get a Yes Mame just like my mother would. Nothing more for sure.

(26,310 posts)Glad I gave you the opportunity to get that off your chest. Also glad I have a much broader view of history and of the world. Probably comes from having a history teacher for a dad.

(11,949 posts)I go through phases. I have an entire Roman history section, an early European post Roman section, early American section and a science section. Plus civil war, revolutionary war and both World Wars. Dont ever assume that someone who disagrees with you is less well educated. They may just reach a different conclusion. I concluded having some royalist over me was a bad idea.
I fully understand the history of the British Royal family and those still in existence in Europe. And what have I taken from it? Their entire purpose has been the continuation of their racket.
For many centuries the fate of their subjects was secondary to that goal. They only changed when the French stopped being subjects and chose to be citizens. At that point they realized they could quickly become extraneous but have still managed to keep the grift going.
Again, the European nations that have royal families are democracies. They choose to be subjects rather than citizens and that is their choice. I respect that choice. Its just not one I would choose to make.

Dont know about you but I have no desire to be a subject under a billionaire

(26,310 posts)Nobody is calling for an American monarchy, constitutional or otherwise. Some of us admire the woman who happens to be Queen Elizabeth. Just like some of us are interested in the flow of history and the roles, good or bad, that historical figures have played in it.
So I'm not sure why you are trying to turn such a benign discussion into something controversial, but then I'm not someone who looks for excuses to argue or upset people. Things are upsetting enough, already. But, that just my personal choice.

(26,310 posts)I saw her, up close, when I was in London for her Silver Jubilee. Honestly, I'd heard people talk about porcelain skin but never saw it until I was standing about 2 feet away from her.
