I admit, I can't watch Pox Noise. Something in me just won't let me. Maybe it's the whole "don't feed the beast" type thing. Or "don't reward/reinforce bad behavior" thing. Or maybe it's an "avoid danger" reflex. I worked for several seriously and objectively credible news organizations during my career. Including NBC News and the Associated Press. So Pox Noise is an affront to all my sensibilities and what I learned, in the newsroom and in the field, and learning from some of the best in the business. I have a hard time regarding Pox Noise (see, I can't even bring myself to call it by its given name) as an equal to those other operations. It's difficult for me to see it as a legitimate NEWS operation when it specializes in such strong bias toward one side (in my opinion, the WRONG side) and its presentation smacks of propaganda, not objective facts. They do the reality SHOW, not the reality.
So thank you for braving the beast, so the rest of us can have a view without getting too close ourselves.

(15,751 posts)It's amazing to me how many, in many different ways, don't seem to get that the Covid threat is now more dangerous to most of us, - more than ever. Also, that the threat and actuality of serious economic problems are very serious.
[My fox viewings are not a labor of fox love, etc. - rather, a labor of aerobic arc machine exercise in which the fox channel is visible at my gym].

(81,558 posts)On the other hand, if I were a member of that gym, I'd be at the front desk and asking to talk to management every day, for them to change the channel. I've actually done that at restaurants and waiting rooms and other places where a general-use TV is on. Asked for the channel to be switched. And sometimes I've cited my own past as a news reporter, saying Pox Noise is offensive to me because of the way it's bastardized and propagandized their alleged "reporting" - that's agenda-driven, NOT attempting to shed light or share truth.
Seems to me it's important to make that request even when it's denied (as I experienced at a restaurant at a small local airport in Camarillo, CA). Popular restaurant. BIG screen TVs all over, especially in the entryway, where people would wait to be seated. And the receptionist was very polite, and even apologetic, in declining my request. She said the owner MANDATED that the TVs all be tuned to Fox News so nobody touched the channel changer. I said I understood, and I remained polite as well. And as diplomatically as I could, I added that I would no longer be bringing my business to that restaurant.
Even when I didn't achieve my objective, I still wanted that on the record. I wanted for her to have some "ammo," to be able to report that - "yeah, customer came up and asked that we change the channel." Maybe I was alone in my complaint. But what if more people complained? What if the staff started hearing complaints from several customers? What if it became noticeable? What if it became "a thing"? What if it started getting back to the owner that - "um, sir, we're getting complaints about Fox News on the screens in the restaurant..." I'm sure if the owner made it an order, that he wouldn't be moved by those complaints. But at least he'd know they'd happened. At least he couldn't live in an absolute 100% vacuum. NO FREEBIES for business owners like that. That's my way of striking back at Pox Noise, and doing what I can to diminish their audience and limit their reach.
That's been the only time when the channel would not be changed. Every other encounter I've had on this quest has been successful - and effective.

I had it changed at my local bank branch. Where I was a longtime customer. They ALL knew me by sight.
Took awhile. A few visits to one of the human tellers over about, I guess, a month or so.
Every time, I made a point of commenting to whoever, behind the counter, was helping me. Gently asking for the TV to be changed to something OTHER than Pox Noise.
And I'd go over to one of the supervisors' desks - whoever was staffing at that moment, and repeating my polite complaint.
And guess what?
One fine day I had to go in to do some banking, AND I noticed that the TV was tuned to the Food Network!
So I complimented and thanked the teller.
Then I went over to that desk area where the supervisor(s) sat. Approached one of them, said I noticed someone had changed the channel on the TV, AWAY from Pox Noise. I thanked them for doing so and said I was really glad that had happened. Then I asked - "just curious - what made you guys change it?" And the answer came: "we had some complaints about it."
EUREKA!!!!!!!!!! VICTORY!!!!!!!!!!
And, okay, maybe some, or perhaps ALL of the complaints had come only from me. Hey, what do I care? Doesn't matter! Objective ACHIEVED!
That taught me that complaining WORKS. Speaking up WORKS! NOT remaining silent and just stewing about it - WORKS! ALWAYS speak up! ALWAYS let 'em know. ALWAYS!!! You could get some good results! If NOTHING else, at least you AND your complaint are ON THE RECORD.
And always at least try to be polite and nice, as much as possible - and even if/when you don't want to! Flies-to-honey and all that. And take it up a level and talk to a supervisor or management person, too. IF YOU CAN, politely and congenially take your issue to more than one person there.
