(28,753 posts)- the great majority of BLMers in Portland are white suburbanites. and they ain't skeered of no jack booted thugs. so get hip to this - you're never 'getting your country back'.
not now. not ever. never.

(19,204 posts)where are the militias, the "Proud Boys", and every other "patriotic" gang of meatheads who say they're against government overstepping it's bounds, and against the very "jack booted thugs" Trump has sent to Portland? Where the hell are they?
I guess they're only willing to take on the "jack booted thugs" who only exist in their fevered imaginations. You know, the imagined "jack booted thugs" who are coming for their guns! They're very tough when it comes to imaginary enemies, aren't they?

(8,892 posts)As a bitter old vet that was part of a political war in a jungle, I have been really pissed at where we are today under trump and headed where he and GOP want us to go. Ive been questioning what, for who and if my service counted. This video, Portland and all the brave people for months in the streets, getting exposed to a deadly virus fighting for this country with a clear reason, is why and who. This makes me so proud. And for all those I see every time I go to the VA Hospital, those that sacrificed so much for so little, this movement is honoring us all. Thank you Portland and ALL BLM Protesters, taking action at a very high risk for the country we all fought hard for, or are fighting for. In a time of near hopelessness under this regime, this gives real hope. I salute all of you, and someday, we will no longer need to take a knee, but can stand arm in arm, proud to sing the anthem and proud of the country we all Want it to be. The Times They Are a Changing. By, We The People, as promised.

(8,062 posts)21 of the most memorable protests in Portland history
Updated May 18, 2019; Posted Apr 11, 2016
1991 antiwar demonstration
Last month, Portland State students disrupted a university governing-board meeting, forcing board members to retreat to a bunker -- er, unmarked basement conference room -- to vote on a proposed tuition increase. Was it one of the more memorable protests in our local history? No, but thats because Portland sets a high bar. The Rose City is known around the world for its demonstrations. On the pages that follow we offer up some of the most interesting, strange and meaningful Portland protests ever.

(36,499 posts)By most measures, today's Portland is more progressive then Berkeley was in the sixties.
Could be, this is why the orange anus targeted the city.

(82,849 posts)The demonstrations in Portland are about Black Lives Matter. Not Donald Trump. Not his goon squad. Not some graffiti on the federal courthouse. Black Lives Matter. And in opposition to that clear and present danger, Donald Trump has declared war on the city of Portland.

(1,640 posts)I couldn't help but imagine what people who disagree with the protests would say.
To them, the images are like people in foreign countries shouting "Death to America"--except that often during those gatherings the people aren't actually saying, "Death to America". But Fox News and its ilk will use whatever distortions that they can to sell their own narrative.
