This is frightening given the Covid-19 problems in the Rio Grande valley.

(112,620 posts)That area is sparsely populated so if we are supposed to get by a hurricane, then that is the place for it. The most important concern at this point will be regarding flooding and possible tornadoes. Most of that area is in drought like conditions so the rain may be beneficial.

The south west bands are already hitting mountains.

(269,256 posts)I thought you were talking geography. They don't need wind or water but hopefully given the drought it won't be too bad

(1,399 posts)Am not sure why with these little pinwheel hurricanes in South Texas do this but Dolly was the same way in 2008, very little action north of the eye. Both took forever to push through and both were in late July.

Risk of mudslides though, but those mountains deprive storms of their fuel.

(1,399 posts)So far we've been lucky, just some flickering, but its westward track is hammering most of the Valley with the southern part of the eye wall. It's going to be a long night.
There are a lot of people in isolation from Covid right now which makes it that much more difficult.

That storm will probably head toward Cuba.

(269,256 posts)but it's way to early to figure out which of us will be hit
Looks like that will be a hurricane - still it's forming early and it has a long way to go.
Got all supplies for the peak season. Can't do more than that.

(1,399 posts)I've about run out of Aquanet. This was definitely stronger than they thought it was going to be, I wasn't expecting the worst storm since Dolly in '08 but that's what we're getting. Wind gusts have gone down but are still gale force and the rain is very heavy at the moment. Brownsville and Matamoros probably aren't getting hit as hard given that they're about twice as far from the eye as we are.

(4,462 posts)Were keeping our eye out on the other storm brewing out in the Atlantic, as it looks like its on track to make its way into the Gulf. And of course the one heading to Hawaii.
Everyone who lives in hurricane paths, youre in my thoughts and I hope all DUers keep us in their thoughts. In our case, if we have to evacuate, I really dont know where we would go.

and where they may hit.
