I've often thought that my Grandpa who was a lifelong Republican - would have quit the Party before voting for Chump. My Grandpa admired Ike (voted twice for him), didn't think too much of Nixon, and he was less than thrilled with Reagan. Then Grandpa passed away, just as things got really ugly. He never saw the Bushes, never saw Newt Gingrich, and I'm thankful for that. Chump would have been too much for Grandpa - way too much!
I really hope we're seeing the self-destruction of the GOP, because it has no reason to continue after Chump. Yes there will still be conservatives but the Republican Party is dead. The last leader they can be proud of left office 60 years ago!

(1,206 posts)Although some past Presidents would have envied the power he has and the administration he's been allowed to build around him - along with a fawning right-wing media empire and a spineless Senate majority facilitating every step with no checks nor balances.
They could only dream of having had absolute carte-blanche to do anything they wanted.
Imagine Nixon with that kind of power. Shit, imagine Obama with that kind of power.
