Heavy smoke and fire were billowing from the building about 1 a.m. near Central Avenue and Thomas Road as Phoenix firefighters arrived at the scene. They quickly entered the building in search of people and began a fire attack to put out the flames, according to officials.
No one was inside the building at the time, and no injuries were reported.
Phoenix Fire Investigation Task Force and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigators were investigating the fire. Phoenix police spokeswoman Sgt. Mercedes Fortune said the incident is being investigated as an arson based on evidence discovered at the scene.

There is a recovery fund set up to help replace equipment lost in the fire. There is a link at the bottom of the news article. I don't know if I can link directly to the fund web site or not.

(16,616 posts)2. I hope investigators are rounding up surveillance video from that area of Phoenix
This didn't happen out in the middle of some rural wasteland.
The offer of a large reward might help solve this crime.
There is enough vandalism at Democratic campaign offices that it is to be hoped many of them have surveillance and alarm systems. Yet so many of these crimes seem to go unsolved.

Our MCDP Headquarters on Central Avenue and Thomas Rd. caught fire around 1:00 a.m. on July 24th. We are still unsure of the cause of the fire, the police are currently investigating the situation.
This donation link is specifically to help our organization recover the essential operation items and technology we lost to this devastating fire including laptops, tablets, phone banking equipment. Unfortunately, we will not be able to replace the historic election memorabilia or years' worth of candidate and organizational documents that were destroyed. We truly appreciate our community's support at this time and we are grateful for any donation you make to help us recover.
While this poses new challenges in an already critical election, we want to assure you that this will not hinder our efforts to elect Democrats across the county. We will continue to lead and we are ready to win.
Thank you for your continued support.
