What is the absolute latest Joe can announce his running mate, and will he wait that long? (Original Post) GreenPartyVoter Jul 2020 OP
At the nominating convention. I doubt he would wait that long because they must vote hlthe2b Jul 2020 #1

on the VP candidate as well, but theoretically, he could do it at the last possible minute.

There is nothing to gain right now by rolling out a target for the GOP to try to tear down the ticket (which of course they will).

Trump is busily stabbing himself right now.
Just keep handing him new swords and stay out of the way until the last minute.

I thought I heard him say, back in June, that he would be ready to announce at the end of this month. I could be wrong but somehow that I think that's it.

Make it a big deal, surprise, and unexpected. Take up all the oxygen in the room and keep the orange hemorrhoid out of the news for as long as you possibly can.

The only thing I'm in a hurry to get to is Nov 3rd.

and riots haven't broken out in said cities.

Biden should just stop playing games, let us know who he 'chose' and move on - if he keeps waiting there will be no one even paying attention.

so, he's not earlier than 2016 already.

However, Obama waited until August 23, 2008 to announce Joe Biden as his running mate.

So, right now, he's in between the last two VP announcements.

And, at the State of the Union address, she’ll be sitting next to Speaker Pelosi!

Plus, remember if the new Senate is 50 R - 50 D, she’ll cast the tie-breaking vote.
Hopefully, we can get at least 51 D in the Senate, and even more in 2022!

If it's Warren, then the anti-POC attacks will occur.

If it's Harris, the anti-Progressive attacks will occur.

The less time they have to do this, the less damage can be caused by GOP/Russia fomented Dem in-fighting.

Targeted ads will then flow once the running mate is chosen.

Also, does it really matter, when Joe is already a lock-up to have this mentioned earlier?

There is absolutely NOTHING to gain by announcing now. It will allows deflection from Trump, shifting news cycles to Biden. It's best for Biden's campaign to lay low and let the Trump resentment and alienation continue to build. Those Sleepy Joe ads were shown to be ineffective. Trump is having a problem attacking him on any front. Biden support is strong, and the sooner they can have a wedge to drive Democrats apart, the more damage and damage control will be required.

as long as possible. Then, when he goes to strike at the Veep nominee, Joe can turn around say, “Donald Trump is more worried about my chosen running mate than the X # of Americans who died on his watch. And that number is climbing daily. But I’ve got a plan to put a stop to that.”

Unfortunately, people can’t keep their mouths shut, so one of the people with knowledge of the choice will leak the name as soon as the person is asked and agrees to run.

Since Trump is a walking, talking Biden campaign ad, Joe would be wise to hold off as long as possible. In the off chance that Trump actually gets something right by accident, then announce right away and steal his thunder.

I think Joe said a while back that he would announce his running mate in early August, but there's no real advantage to hurrying it. I would hold off as long as possible. Ideally, maybe the Saturday before the Convention starts (which is only like 3 weeks away).
