(29,322 posts)I wouldn't downplay it since the GOP congressman was way out of line especially when AOC said something reasonable.
We aren't in the 1800s any more.

(86,016 posts)...which politically benefits Rep. Yoho and all his republican peers, it's not from want of trying he hasn't actually struck a fatal blow.

(73,692 posts)It seems that AOC makes some people uncomfortable and even angry. That's a good thing. Ted Yoho represents everything I am opposed to.

Keep an eye on AOC. She's got Maxine Waters/Nancy Pelossi potential.

What a waste of space he was.

(8,884 posts)And now wants to destroy the post office before he leaves. So he did NOThING for 8 years, and leaves with a pension and health care for him and family for life. That we pay for. Great gig for those that get appointed by GOP cash. (Government Of Putin.)

(905 posts)Old, racist white men like Yoho who endlessly obsess over AOC are actually scared shitless. Good.

(58,785 posts)Probably just feeling free to act out his bad character.
That he is not is somewhat interesting, tho. He's a lying, betraying Repub who calls women bitches, so no reason to believe his claim that he's honoring a pledge not to serve more than 4 terms. Especially since his district had been gerrymandered from blue/majority black to red/majority white. That change doesn't just protect his incumbency but gives him the excuse that his pledge was to his original constituency and hasn't served any group that long.
He's also the ranking Repub scoundrel on the foreign affairs committee (!), but would be doomed to remain powerless as long as Democrats keep the majority.
So, apparently time to cash in his chips with his donors, along with dozens of other disgruntled Repub members finding "service" far less satisfying, and chips-earning, these days.

(7,404 posts)And the House needs to censor Yoho for his conduct. It is never appropriate to personalize policy differences in such a crude and sexist manner like this.

(22,853 posts)She shared this nugget, reframing the encounter for me. She wrote me a note and it said...
B being
I in
T total
C control of
H herself
Now some may think that this is problematic because the notion of control may seem oppressive. I can tell you that I found comfort in it then and recall it every time I am accused of being something bad because I am a bitch, sometimes bossy and firm in my convictions. I find it comforting now and probably always will.
Reframing is exactly what AOC did and I think using that approach can be a valuable tool.
As for the encounter AOC experienced, I think it's pretty clear which individual needs to do better with self control. I am tempted to call him a form of a hassle. Remove the 'h' & add a 'o' and there it is.
Thanks for sharing this, bigtree.
