Ocasio-Cortez accosted by GOP lawmaker over remarks: 'That kind of confrontation hasn't ever happened to me'
By Mike Lillis - 07/21/20 08:45 AM EDT
Tensions flared on Capitol Hill this week when a Republican lawmaker challenged Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) on issues of crime and policing in an unusual and decidedly personal confrontation on the Capitol steps.
Rep. Ted Yoho (R-Fla.) was coming down the steps on the east side of the Capitol on Monday, having just voted, when he approached Ocasio-Cortez, who was ascending into the building to cast a vote of her own.
In a brief but heated exchange, which was overheard by a reporter, Yoho told Ocasio-Cortez she was "disgusting" for recently suggesting that poverty and unemployment are driving a spike in crime in New York City during the coronavirus pandemic.
"You are out of your freaking mind," Yoho told her.
Ocasio-Cortez shot back, telling Yoho he was being "rude."
The two then parted ways. Ocasio-Cortez headed into the building, while Yoho, joined by Rep. Roger Williams (R-Texas), began descending toward the House office buildings. A few steps down, Yoho offered a parting thought to no one in particular.
"Fucking bitch," he said.

"Obviously, I'm no stranger to this," she said.
But the confrontation with Yoho was something new.
"In all these intense news cycles, I have never, ever been treated that way by another member before," she said. "I'm frankly quite taken aback."

I'm surprised that he didn't try and grab her like his sewer-spawn hero in the White House has done to so many women.
Lol, it would have been cool to watch Occasio-Cortez boot his fat Nazi ass down the steps if he had tried that.

However, I think "Yoho" should be made to tremble in his boots.

(81,700 posts)Cheney, who has never regretted the incident, appeared on Thursdays Dennis Miller Show and took a compliment about it from the host.
I love that move, Miller said while thanking Cheney for going after Leahy. One of my favorite stories muttering that.
Cheney responded that a lot of people liked the comment. Thats sort of the best thing I ever did.

(2,318 posts)Other than it violates the GOP world view that urbanites are inherently violent and lazy (confusing, I know), and that the only thing that poverty should ever engender is the desire to work harder, to pull one up by one's own bootstraps, doncha know. To suggest to a GOPer that people do desperate things because they live in poverty and disease is to suggest that the sun rises in the west and sets in the east. It's a non sequitur to them.
Oh, and it also might mean they'll have to kiss goodbye their tax cuts for the rich.

By more than 99 percent of the vote, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Emmet Till Antilynching Act, named after the 14-year-old Black teenager lynched in Mississippi in 1955.
One of the scant no votes in the 410-4 tally came from Rep. Ted Yoho, who represents Floridas 3rd congressional district. .........

(6,251 posts)Take away people's hope, make them fear for their future, and you will see the anger rise in those people. An increase in crime is one of the unfortunate results of hopelessness and desperation.
Happy, secure people don't turn to crime.
AOC understands this, Ted Yoho apparently doesn't. Or, perhaps it's the messenger he has a problem with. Yoho represents a district in Florida that is over 76% white, and has only two cities, Gainesville and Ocala, which together comprise less than 30% of his district.
The guy doesn't seem to know how to deal with a strong Latino woman; I think he's afraid of her.

(2,220 posts)If you read the article, Rep. Roger Williams (R-Texas) response shows that he has no instinct to defend women. It seems a stretch that he was waiting to join a man in a confrontation and was pensively contemplating issues at the time. His solidarity with another right wing man while ignoring a female colleague in a situation bordering on the wrong side of creating a hostile work environment tells it all.
Make it very clear, Roger Williams is not going to defend your rights as a woman. Not even basic rights. He is deplorable. If not a bully he supports bullies. What a poor representative we have with him in Texas.

(101,411 posts)I'd have thought your typical Trumpist would be saying "yeah, unemployment is causing an increase in crime, therefore we must open the economy up fully - damn the coronavirus!!!".
I suspect "fucking bitch" and "disgusting" was his first thought, and then he tried to find something to justify it. Even if it makes no sense.

(298,021 posts)In response, Ocasio-Cortez told Yoho he was being "rude," and then kept walking. Yoho was then heard by the reporter saying, "F---ing b----." His office has denied he made those remarks.
And, now Yoho is LYING about it..
"He did not call Rep. Ocasio-Cortez what has been reported in the Hill or any name for that matter," he said. "Instead, he made a brief comment to himself as he walked away summarizing what he believes her policies to be: bulls---."
Yoho IS BULLSHIT
