It's Too Late, Baby

It would be laughable, if it wasn’t so tragic for so many Americans. But apparently the Republicans have finally noticed that their “pResident’s” abject stupidity with respect to handling the response to Covid-19 is not only jeopardizing their chances of retaining the WH and a senate majority, it is ruining the GOP ‘brand’ in ways that will undoubtedly linger long after the Dotard is ousted.

They could have reined-in their idiot child from his first days in office, by telling him in no uncertain terms that they would not support any of his policies that damaged the party. A few choice words from the likes of McConnell or Graham would have gone a long way in educating Trump that their speaking out in public against his actions would be not only detrimental to his “pResidency”, but to his chances of being re-elected to a second term.

But they didn’t. Instead, they enabled him, cheered him on, and supported the very things they had to know would come back to bite them in the ass come November 2020.

But as fate would have it, the GOP was handed a once-in-a-political-lifetime opportunity to rid themselves of the man who was causing all of their problems, i.e. the chance to vote FOR his impeachment. Not only would they have still retained the WH as Pence took over, they could have played the country-over-party card, a PR win that would have made Republicans look like they had a backbone after all.

But again, they didn’t. They instead chose to protect a “pResidency” that was already mired in scandal – including the unmistakable stench of outright treason.

So now they are where they are. Suddenly faced with their “pResident’s” plummeting poll numbers, they are attempting to distance themselves from the idiot they unwaveringly supported until they finally realized that with every Covid-19 death, they are losing votes.

What really says everything about the Republicans is the fact that it took them this long to figure out that a 140,000 deaths (and counting) from Covid-19 wasn’t exactly a vote-getter.

So put those masks on now, Republican senators, congressmen, governors and mayors – all of you who insisted only weeks ago that doing so was a pointless effort to protect people from a political hoax, perpetrated by a global conspiracy determined to undermine the re-election of an incompetent, lying traitor.

And while you’re doing what you should have done months ago, keep in mind that the waning support for your “pResident” means waning support for every Republican running for election or re-election.

The Grand Ol’ Party, which once touted itself as representing conservative principles and Christian values, is now recognized as the party of spineless ass-kissers, a group of losers that didn’t even have the common sense to figure out that supporting a bankrupt-businessman-turned-TV-reality-show-failure would eventually prove to be a losing position.

Is that that the virus was trump’s perfect reason to breeze to re-election.

Any non-sociopath would have realized that shutting down the economy to save lives would have won him all kinds of support.

But no, he made it about him and he crashing and burning.

It really too late to get it under control now with Masks becoming political.

If everyone start wearing masks today he might still win re-election. But that’s not happening.

Oh, and the only thing keeping the economy going at all is the $600 unemployment benefit. That is about to end. Things will get really ugly by October. It will ben depression level bad

... he might still win re-election."

If Trump single-handedly developed a cure for Covid-19, and walked across water to personally deliver it to every hospital in the nation, he still couldn't win re-election.

He is reaping the whirlwind with regard to the masks. He could come out tomorrow screaming that everyone must don masks and it wouldn't be effective.

I think you're also exactly correct about the oncoming economic problems. I fear what we've seen is only the beginning as our tertiary economy is going to grind to a halt under the fear spread by the virus. Small business owners hanging on by their worn fingernails now are going to plummet in the coming months, consumer unease will multiply and dominoes will still be tipping past the new year and into 2021.

Anything.
One right thing, one good thing.
Half the nation would have gladly stuffed its collective head right back up his ass.
And he couldn't be bothered.
