(46,267 posts)The Enabling Act (German: Ermächtigungsgesetz) of 1933, formally titled Gesetz zur Behebung der Not von Volk und Reich ("Law to Remedy the Distress of People and Reich" ) , [1] was a law that gave the German Cabinetin effect, the Chancellorthe power to enact laws without the involvement of the Reichstag, and to override fundamental aspects of the Weimar Constitution.[2] The Enabling Act gave Hitler plenary powers and followed on the heels of the Reichstag Fire Decree, which had abolished most civil liberties and transferred state powers to the Reich government. The combined effect of the two laws was to transform Hitler's government into a legal dictatorship.

(2,222 posts)This has been coming for long, long time.
A lot of good people have tried to stop the madness but the writing is now on the wall, front and center.
We need to be ready to defend ourselves and possibly our freedom.

(2,626 posts)He says he's sending the same type of law enforcement to NY, NJ, Detroit and other cities that are now in Portland kidnapping protesters and taking them away in unmarked vans.
Trump's thugs beat up a Navy veteran yesterday just because he tried to talk to them.
Edited because I had NY on there twice.

(12,496 posts)I say we have to divorce sociopaths narcissists and authoritarians from power.
They automatically believe laws are for everyone else.
For example if Karen having a tantrum hit someone ,Why not just knock her the fuck out.
Make sure someone is videoing the altercation..Fucking narcissists gotta go...AWAY.

(16,616 posts)If the court really believes what it just did, then it just handed President Trump a great deal of power, too, Yoo, a professor at Berkeley Law, said.
The supreme court has said President Obama could [choose not to] enforce immigration laws for about 2 million cases. And why cant the Trump administration do something similar with immigration create its own program, but it could do it in areas beyond that, like healthcare, tax policy, criminal justice, inner city policy. I talked to them a fair amount about cities, because of the disorder.

(4,159 posts)with DACA and what Trump seems to proposing to do.
The Obama Administration wasnt refusing to enforce immigration law. DACA acknowledged that there were too many undocumented immigrants for the system to handle. Therefore in enforcing the law it was explicitly going to focus deportation efforts on people who posed a threat because of criminal convictions or other issues which would ordinarily make them ineligible to attain legal immigrant status. DACA was a way to manage a class of undocumented immigrants and give them an official status until immigration law caught up to their status and gave them a path to permanent resident status and eventually citizenship.
What the Trump Administration seems to be trying to do is enact new law by executive fiat. He might be able to further eviscerate the Affordable Care Act through this method but its hard to see how any but the most Trumpist jurist goes along with him creating new law out of thin air.
And John Yoo is a hack who should have been prosecuted for war crimes.
