and influenced the administration's push to reopen the economy and lift lockdownDr Deborah Birx, the chief medical officer on the White House coronavirus task force, told the Trump administration in April that it was not a long term problem for the U, reported The New York Times.
Birx claimed that the virus in the US would follow the same trajectory as it did in Italy, with a sharp spike in infections followed by a gradual decline in infections.
The optimistic picture provided by Birx was reportedly welcomed by Trump administration officials, as the president pushed for states to lift lockdown and measures and for the economy to gear up ahead of November's presidential election.

And there were others who disagreed. Trump chose to listen to Birx.

(16,889 posts)Birx seemed ready and willing to promote and support the Trump response all spring. However, we're seeing so many of the stories about Birx emerging, could this be a means for the Trump people to say "Gee, he listened to our expert and she was wrong. See it's not his fault!"

(25,111 posts)I see they are shifting blame on someone else although I feel that she is not as qualified as other experts concerning the virus, but shithole was thinking about the virus disappearing probably back in late 2019 or very early 2020. t-rump's main concern is re-election and that centers around the economy.
Just my opinion.

While attempting to feed TrumpCo sugar-coated information that wouldn't be flat spat out, she didn't adequately account for the effect her one-soft-peddling-voice-among-20,000-alarm-sounders would have on Trump's decisions to completely ignore her advice and thus on the consequent disease course. Trump's determination to completely REFUSE to address the pandemic, only demonstrated over time, was not a factor plugged into her model.

Oh and one of the things that makes me think this is a set up is that the article ends quoting a WH spokesperson with the normal SSDD, 'Trump is awesome it's not him it's those pesky Democrats and radical left', 'shift the blame' BS...
"President Trump and his bold actions from the very beginning of this pandemic stand in stark contrast to the do-nothing Democrats and radical left who just complain, criticize and condemn anything this president does to preserve this nation," White House spokesman Judd Deere told the Times.
I wonder how much a soul goes for these days. There seems to be a rush to sell by Trump humping Cult45ers.

(17,865 posts)Birx explained that President Trump has been mindful of the details that continue to come in about the COVID-19.
"He has been so attentive to the details and the data and his ability to analyze and integrate data has been a real benefit during these discussions about medical issues," she added.

(1,824 posts)It seemed Trump changed the variable by pushing re opening.
Dr. Birx was more central than publicly known to the judgment inside the West Wing that the virus was on a downward path. Colleagues described her as dedicated to public health and working herself to exhaustion to get the data right, but her model-based assessment nonetheless failed to account for a vital variable: how Mr. Trumps rush to urge a return to normal would help undercut the social distancing and other measures that were holding down the numbers.

(19,891 posts)That's what Italy did, they shutdown the entire country from early March until early June - nearly 3 full months.
Here in the states, some places never even shutdown.
So, Dr Birx's projection that we could have the same trajectory as Italy was false.
And how come trump's so called "experts" (pence, kushner) never asked the question - how can the US follow Italy given there was no 3 month national shutdown.
Birx simply told trump what he wanted to hear.
