(9,897 posts)We have the legacy of one of the great social breakthroughs in human history - secular self-rule in a constitutional democratic republic. The founding ideals have set forth a vision of working to form a more perfect union, and establishing that idea of ALL humans being truly EQUAL.
But that is all we have...
The current state of affairs and status of the United States of America is far, far, far away from those ideals. Progress made and paid for in blood, sweat, tears and grace in the face of hate is threatened everywhere. Tyranny is a real threat for the first time in 7 decades or more. Fascism is HERE now. Time is short and the last chance to reclaim the direction and potential for a future is at risk.
VOTE...but don't forget that is only the first of THOUSANDS of additional steps to take and changes to demand and codify.
It really is depressing when you look at the numbers and realize:
The majority of white people voted for Trump in 2016.
The majority of men voted for Trump in 2016.
The majority of Christians voted for Trump in 2016.
The majority of people over 50 voted for Trump in 2016.
Etc. Sure, Hillary got more votes, but Trump still got way too many, when it was obvious what kind of person he is. It's depressing.

(90,370 posts)... after Trump stole the election.
I sat there with my mouth hanging open as a person of color thinking Matthews can afford to wonder if Trump's racism is just political or not.
I can't forget that the media paid 60% attention to Hillary's emails and only 30% to her policies.
I'll never forget that
