(82,849 posts)Trump tried two or three half-assed measures, they didn't work (in fact, made a bad situation worse), and now he's bored with it. The administration has in effect abandoned the country to its fate. Trump doesn't care, and he will show that in a thousand ways big and small in the months to come. When his indifference is pointed out, he will whine about how "unfair" it is to expect him to do anything.

(1,665 posts)He muddied the waters enough and has enough surrogates out there STILL calling it a hoax that hes swept (likely) 200,000 dead Americans under the carpet. He neutralized the highest number of dead Americans under any president except during the civil war as a campaign issue, so why should he care anymore. Im sure he doesnt even register the dead people as people.
How the hell his cultists can ignore bodies stacking up in refrigerator trucks in Texas and Arizona, full ICU units in FL, is beyond me. They wont understand it until they get it themselves.

(146,345 posts)His solution is to abandon the issue and look for a simpler one. He simply can't cope with larger, more complex issues, and will not bother with them because he can't understand them.
He does this again and again, whenever his "solutions" for an issue fail to produce immediate and satisfactory results. His response is to abandon the entire issue and take it off his plate.

(182,988 posts)Probably because as you said it was too big for him.
I read that Jared advised him to deal with it like it was just bad PR. That was basically February and after that it was too late. The task force pressers could have saved them a bit but those went south as soon as Trump just HAD to take them over. They turned into a disaster.

(8,933 posts)More like not working at all. He doesn't work. Locking kids in cages and snatching people off the streets in Gestapo style isn't work, it's how he plays. His evil games have just gotten more sophisticated in how he plays - from his younger days - when he was pulling wings off flies.

Of course this depraved nutcase never was capable of being interested, and pandemic is now a big loser issue so he's abandoned the pretense.

Over there is my Infrastructure Week, I started that and it turned out I needed more parts than I had, so I stopped. Ill get back to it one of these days. Over there is my Coronavirus Task Force, it works, but honestly it was too difficult And took a lot of patience and time, so I gave up, I might take it out one more time for shits and grins. I just started this Divide the Country using Racial Dogwhistles While protecting statues and it came with this Calling ANTIFA Terrorists Add-on. Works pretty good, should keep me busy for awhile.
Of course theres my baby over here, my campaign rallies. That stupid Coronavirus Task Force took up all my time and this baby was collecting dust. To be honest Im pretty much back into this and the new thing I got. Probably gonna be that way through the fall.

(14,602 posts)and has already caused over 140,000 deaths, is it?
Just over 16 weeks until the election. A lot can happen in 16 weeks.
For instance, there was an armed robbery this morning in Highlands Ranch, Colorado - an affluent suburb to the south of Denver, in northern Douglas County. The suspect was at large, so the Douglas Sheriff ordered a lockdown, but sent what people in that neighborhood are guessing are national guard people - guys in military camouflage, masks and with fully automatic weapons.
I mean, the lockdown is one thing, but fully armed soldiers? To catch a guy suspected of armed robbery?
This shit is happening ALL OVER this country.

(10,138 posts)So heres an interesting question. The leaders of the US military services have so far refused to play Trumps game of declaring war on US citizens after the debacle of a photo op in DC. Now Trump is using the equivalent of his own private army that he controls through agency heads. If things get out of control as Trump plans, would the actual military come to the aid of citizens and counter Trumps army? They would have to do it without an order from the Commander-in-Chief and possibly after a direct order not to interfere.
I truly am having a hard time getting my brain wrapped the condition of the US government just now.

He won't follow becuase he thinks that is showing "weakness."
He won't get out of the way. That would allow someone else to get credit and accolades that Trump think belong solely to him.

"Yes sir?"
"Trump here. Get me the Covid mortality reports for May and June, with both 7 and 14 day rolling averages. Got it?"
"Yes sir, I'm on it."
"Oh, and Fauci?"
"Yes, sir?"
"While you're at it, double check your model for the projected infection rate for the first week of August."
"Why, if I may ask sir?"
"After applying my least squares adjustment to the HHS raw data, it reveals an unexpected departure from the projection of the previous week. I think we have that same systematic error creeping back in that I discovered in the April report. I THOUGHT YOU FIXED THAT! Now quit wasting my time with your stupid questions and get me the two reports and your results of the projection model evaluation, on my desk by the end of the day. And don't bother me till then Fauci, Miss Hicks is giving me her report. Got it, Fauci?"
"Uh, yes sir."
No, tRump is not calling and asking about data.

Both of us wore masks throughout (me and my various things seem to be under control, so yay) but there was mention of DFT and the pandemic toward the end. So his comment was as he was literally closing the door and poking his head back in.

https://www.tennessean.com/story/news/health/2020/07/16/nashville-opioid-deaths-soar-amid-coronavirus-outbreak/5444690002/
"The opioid epidemic has led to twice as many deaths as COVID-19 in Nashville in 2020 and is on track to kill more people than ever before, according to new data from the Metro Public Health Department.
Opioid overdoses are up 47% from this time last year. The majority of victims are younger men killed by fentanyl, which is commonly laced into heroin and other blackmarket drugs.
Surging deaths in Nashville expand upon an already growing crisis. Tennessee saw steep growth in drug overdose deaths in 2019 when compared to the previous year, newly released federal data shows.
As all eyes turned to the global coronavirus pandemic, Tennessee's opioid epidemic has quietly worsened outside of the public spotlight. Trevor Henderson, a Metro Health official who tracks the opioid crisis, said drug overdoses of all kinds have increased since the virus arrived in Nashville in March.". .(more)
