She cried on the way to work this morning, too many tourists and no body following precautions. She works outside at a beach, but has to run credit cards and ghet close enough to put a wristband on people...
They sent her home early, she having pressure on her chest, can't breathe deep, has a lowered temp, and muscle cramps but not all over aches....nausea, diarheea for two days, and that fuzzy-headed feeling...she says some of her smell is "off" but taste seems ok...
Im trying to tell myself she's just freaking herself out.
If she gets worse we're driving to the er at midnight...otherwise first thing in the morning.
She's 18
I'm 50 with autoimmune stuff and have been driving her everywhere, also had a bit of a scratchy throat today...
Edit: we live in Lake Tahoe, which is a super hot spot and NOBODY is doing shit! Only 10 beds left in the hospital and cases jumped from 10 a day to 20 a day and we still have like an almost 2 week lapse on testing

(17,734 posts)but also, my son had those exact symptoms and was feeling really crappy for a week, and then was fine. We live very close and I am fine too. So telling you this to ease your worries until you know what is up.
Good luck!

(9,658 posts)It could be a regular flu. Only one way to find out.
I had COVID-19 at the beginning of March. I don't think it follows any set patterns. If you think she's that sick, don't wait till morning. Better to be safe. Wishing you and your daughter all good luck and sending positive thoughts

(7,454 posts)There are plenty of folks who wait too long to get help because of that fear. Sounds to me like she needs to be checked out.

(9,952 posts)I am sorry you nad daughter are experiencing this. Let us know how it is going. Doctors are pretty good at recognizing before testing gets back.
Again, sorry.

(804 posts)I hope you will get tested as soon as possible. Hopefully it will ease your worries. Do any urgent care facilities do testing where you are? Here in NM most urgent cares can do the testing and it takes 3-5 days to get results. The usual time is 48 -72 hours unless a weekend is involved. Then it's 3-5 days. Praying for you and your family.

(9,538 posts)I would take her to a hospital or urgent care center ASAP, unless you have a way to get her to be able to open up her airways at home (ie, with an asthma inhaler perhaps. A drink with caffeine can help temporarily open airways for asthma but I don't know if it does so with COVID. Get her seen right away, please. When breathing troubles come on they can progress very quickly with this virus.

(22,852 posts)In adults, the cut-off is usually considered a rate over 20 breaths per minute, with a rate of over 24 breaths per minute indicating a very serious condition (when it is related to a physical condition rather than a psychological condition such as a panic attack).

(13,366 posts)She did the thing where you lay with your lower chest elevated and said it helped a LOT last night.
Still tired, chest a bit tight but not like last night...throat a little scratchy and achey but no fever and she's insisting she's fine. I'm wondering if it was also anxiety related.
We're avoiding the hot-spot hospital for now and both of us are signing up to get tested at the public college this week.
I still have a scratchy throat, tired, and achey, but then again it could be my arthritis/injuries just acting up.
Today is declared nap-day... much water and vitamins and rest and I'm sgining up right now online for testing.

(13,366 posts)if things get narly we go to the ER there's really no other prevention or remedy at this point
it's the not knowing that scares me
..and the fact that the symptoms are so different for others with autoimmune stuff (I take immune suppressants, could that be good or bad I have no idea) My daughter has other health issues too, so we could be sick and just having milder symptoms for now...
I've also heard that some folks are sick low level for a while then take a drastic turn..
it's scary for sure

(2,365 posts)Expectorant, vit d and c, turn on hot shower to get steam.
Most of these are to thin the mucous and get more oxygen. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory which is not good in the initial stage where your body is fighting the (possible) virus.
Remember most covid19 cases don't need hospitalization. Monitor your oxygen level any way you can, either with an oximeter ($30) or number of breaths per minute. See if you can talk via phone with your doctor.
Please keep us updated. We are here for you .
