Florida dad in ICU with coronavirus, exposed by son who went out with friends, family says

MIAMI — For weeks, Michelle Zymet pleaded with her stepson to avoid going out with friends and to always wear a mask.

“It’s just not the time,” the Florida woman says she told him, begging him to think about his dad, who is at a higher risk of severe COVID-19 illness because he is overweight and diabetic.

One evening in early June, the young man went out against her wishes, gathered with friends and removed his mask while eating and drinking. Days later, he felt cold symptoms and a friend at the get-together told him she had tested positive for coronavirus. By then, it already had taken hold in the young man’s household.

The man's father, John Place, 42, is now fighting the virus at a hospital's intensive care unit.

the moment you're in ... please! These people should be required to watch someone on a ventilator die a painful death!

So I am guessing he went to either bar or restaurant with his friends. Or a party at some friend's house.

mother's anger (I'm assuming)...these kids can't handle a little adversity and avoid going out for even a few days, let alone the amount of time it's going to take to finally beat the CV and stop it in its track. I hope that the father pulls out ok.

Most of covid patients who go on ventilators end up dying. I think at risk families should maybe encourage their offspring to go live somewhere else if they are not able to avoid going out.

extreme step. My heart goes out to them all, and I wish the best result for them all, despite the ignorant kid's behavior. Too bad, he might end up w/o a father and his Mom w/o a husband.

You're absolutely right in that if certain family members wish to continue engaging in such risky behavior as going out still during these risky times, then they need to not come home and stay elsewhere, self isolating themselves. I read of a story here where the father refused to let his son back into the house after his son went to the Lake of the Ozarks w/ all of the crowds and such (locked him out), told his son to find another place.

This is a life and death matter and these idiot kids are putting friends, family members, neighbors, others in harms' way w/ their irresponsible behavior.
