Just finished my kids third haircuts and have almost grown out a pixie on myself. Money and lives saved I think.

(58,785 posts)during the "flattening" when I considered it, but I knew the virus cases were probably much higher than guessed at. I'm putting my hair up, it's that long now.
(And I haven't gathered the nerve, or gone crazy enough, to let my husband try to reproduce my sporty but sophisticated , short, delicately layered bob. )
As you say, money and lives saved.

Glad to hear I'm not the only nut using a Flowbee.
MuseRider
(34,136 posts)has used Flobee as a moniker many times. It was an old nickname back from when it was a thing. Glad to hear they really work, I always used to cut his hair so he never got one.

(3,334 posts)She charged $20. I gave her a $10 tip. It was my first haircut in months.
If you go to Craigslist, you might find traveling stylists.

(30,613 posts)It's a lifesaver (literally) for me. Gives a better haircut than I ever got in a salon.

(115,974 posts)Ponytail or pigtails (I alternate) look kind of silly on an old lady but nobody sees me anyhow and it keeps the hair off my neck on hot days. The cat recently got a lion cut at the vet's, though, because her fur mats. I think she's more comfortable than I am, and she certainly looks better.

(15,224 posts)My normally very short hair is almost down to my chin and gray is my natural color these days. But Ill not complain as Id rather continue to go out as little as possible.

(21,828 posts). . .last time I went was in mid-February.
Stringent protocols, masks, etc. Went nice and smoothly.
This is in New York state, where it was apparently open since June, when they were phased in.
I just decided not to rush things.

(31,540 posts)That haircut will have to wait. I don't even want family members that close to me.
Hekate
(91,003 posts)The waiting area was a pleasantly shaded patio, and a couple of ladies waiting for their color to set were also out there. Only 3 widely spaced stations were in use.
I hadnt had a haircut since January, and it was not flattering. The emergent color I could live with, and will continue to do so: turns out the silver mixed with light brown is rather pretty, and the silver waves in front shine.
The problem with the excessive length was many-fold, though all the body is in the curl, and it is fine and thinner than average. I was starting to use small head scarves left over from the late 1960s to keep it out of my face. Curly/wavy hair needs a pro to look good, and Ive been going to Susie for nearly 40 years.
Im glad I went Governor Newsom promptly shut the state down again, and I dont know when I dare go back.
As for my husband I just take the clippers and set to. Ive done it many times in the past.
NorCal. I had a cut last month when it first opened up. It happened to be at the time I scheduled it 4 months earlier. Everyone wore a mask and used hand sanitizer. The cut was done with the mask on, but there was no blow drying allowed for anyone. Luckily, I don't care. I keep my hair color natural, so no need for more than a 20 minute appt. I had it cut it shorter than I would normally, and it has turned out ok.
My stylist had the cutest cat mask Turns out that she was involved in some of the protests going on around here at the time, and a bonus. She hates Trump!

(10,849 posts)I went during a lull in the numbers. Since then, a mandatory mask regulation has been instituted in our county due to a genuine uptick in positive Covid reports.
That being said, my salon had strict protocol measures in place. I had a cut and highlights done and was in and out in 2 hours. Record time. Also had my hair cut shorter than normal just in case my next appointment is in the TBD category. My last haircut was in late January.
My husband has yet to go to the barber for a hair cut and beard trim. He's trimming his own beard and wearing a headband to keep his hair out of his eyes. With sunglasses on, he could pass for the late Jerry Garcia.

(15,565 posts)I wear it short and it really isn't that difficult to do. In fact, I've gotten two compliments on my hair but those two people didn't even know I'd cut it myself. I also colored it myself for the price of one box of Loreal Preference. It was $8. Usually going to a salon I end up paying $100. Saves a ton of money and outside of Home Depot and Kroger, I don't go anywhere except for outdoors.
