(46,297 posts)If schools are opened, those making that decision are not considering this fact: In middle schools, it is almost custom that both boys and girls ask to excuse themselves to go to the restroom. But they don't come back for 10 minutes, maybe longer. Why: socializing, not digestive issues. You want to see a guaranteed petri dish: it's the bathrooms. I promise you the kids are not going to social distance in such a small perimeter and their habits. What? Do you think one-at-a-time in the bathroom is feasible? I don't think so.

(30,824 posts)The big kids will move the desks and then pretend they didn't know they weren't supposed to.
They will find a hallway corner to kiss in during passing.
They will take masks off while you're turned toward the board and grin to others like they are the coolest of kids and the others are so uncool for wearing theirs.
They will contest how many feet apart they are from each other and challenge you to prove it with a meter stick.
