Trump, in this speech on deregulation, is telling his story about how "you didn't have any water" in energy efficient dishwashers, so "the people that do the dishes" had to run them multiple times.

(11,760 posts)Efficient dishwashers do more with less water. they increase the pressure and the filtration helps to keep deposits from forming. Trump just talks out of his ass, which is hard to differentiate from his face.

Younger DUers missed the era of having the same 3, sometimes 4, name-brand products sold at every store in the region, then finally, as Amazon came along, learn from other purchasers that many of them, not just yours, couldn't toast a simple slice of bread properly before finishing breaking down.
Those were soon all gone. Information and on-line shopping was a revolution.

Unfortunately a lot of other people also don't know. They use a great deal less water than normal hand-washing. Plus, if you have them dry on a heat cycle, they more or less sterilize the dishes. Tends to keep various illnesses from spreading quite as much within a family.
My sister never used the dishwasher that came with her house. Her three kids constantly had something or another. I always used mine. My two were very rarely sick. Sure, that's just an anecdote and too small a sample to be meaningful, but still.
