Former Vice President Joe Biden has a 13-point lead over President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania, a new poll released Wednesday shows, revealing Bidens strength in the battleground commonwealth that Trump carried four years ago.
The Monmouth University poll shows Biden with 53 percent support among Pennsylvania registered voters polled compared to Trumps 40 percent. Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in Pennsylvania by less than a percentage point in 2016 on his way to an electoral college victory.
Biden, the presumptive Democrative presidential nominee, has played up his local roots as a native of Scranton, Pa., during the campaign and even visited his childhood home last week as he focuses on appearances in the commonwealth. The campaigns headquarters are based in Philadelphia and Biden has spoken in the Pennsylvania towns of Darby, Dunmore and Lancaster in the past month.
While Trump this morning touted disputed Republican approval ratings showing him with 96 percent support in his own party, the Monmouth poll finds Biden enjoys more party support than the president, at least in Pennsylvania.
