If it was more deadly people would be more willing to do what it takes to stop it, but since it's not as deadly it's running rampant and it sounds like the long term health damage to survivors is just becoming understood. We're going to end up with millions of Americans who has diminished health the rest of their lives, the costs associated with that aren't even measurable yet.
