Some men that were career focused and never married may want to marry for children, effectively using a younger woman for that. Some younger women want financial security and that is the most important thing to them, so they marry wealthy older men. There are many societies where, pretty-much some women, marry for economic status and marry men old enough to be their grandfathers, I have seen that in my travels, so be it, that is the woman’s choice and the man has to realize that the relationship likely isn’t about love for the woman.

Carolyn Kennedy married a man who was around 50, when she was still in her twenties. I am sure that she had reasons other than just love in making that choice, given that she could have had her choice of younger men.

They had a child when he was 74 and she was 24. He lived to be 90 years so, so his son was around 16 when he died. When he died, he and his wife were still together.

I read an article last year about a 25 year old PhD candidate dating her 70+ year old professor, after she had taken his class and later got back in touch with him and initiated the romance. Her reason, he was a better match for her in every aspect of life that she felt important than were younger men that she had met.

So, people have their reasons and unless we know them, it is conjecture to assume, though it is reasonable to guess that a young woman marrying a much older, rich man is after more than romance.
