Probably not but he is starting to hedge on attending the convention in Jacksonville.
Sorry can't link.

(18,003 posts)he's suggest to his caucus that certain members can distance themselves, i.e. every scoundrel for themselves.

He has every reason to sweat.

(22,204 posts)That's fairly shocking.
Received this from Amy McGrath a few days ago:
"I have some pretty incredible news to share.
This grassroots team raised over $17 million from April to June. And heres something else incredible: No Senate campaign in history has ever raised as much in the April to June reporting period."

(1,206 posts)He has the same reptilian self-preservation gene that Trump has but he's much, much smarter.
He has got to have a plan - he is the last person I would expect to give up power, especially for so futile a reason (i.e. supporting Trump).

(1,206 posts)If he wins this time around he'll be nearing (or past, I'm not sure) his 80th birthday when the term ends and would probably prefer to exit the stage of his own volition rather than being ousted.

(8,090 posts)Maybe he'll do what was done to Nixon and get Fat Nixon to resign. Pence on the ticket would thrill evangelicals (they'd vote in DROVES whereas Dirty Don is turning some of them off...) and Haley checks the "woman" and "POC" identity boxes that people seem to care so much about. Plus, she and Pence are relatively young (early 60s and late 40s) and they'd hammer Biden relentlessly on his age. That's a ticket that worries me. But Trump and his cheating and corruption worry me as well, so... no easy wins.

(23,599 posts)won't support Pence or Haley because they support trump.
It would cause utter chaos.
Remember a huge chunk of republicans never deserted Nixon. It's a cult and they won't desert trump.
Moderates and independents aren't going to support pence.
Meanwhile dems are holding strong and not buying into republican propaganda.

(8,090 posts)McConnell is shrewd and has survived "Washington" for decades -- I don't see him going down with the Trump ship. My gut is telling me something big is going to go down but I'm just not sure what.

(8,090 posts)I'm just finding it hard to believe that Project Lincoln will be "happy" with a Democratic president and Democratic-controlled Senate. When do they go back to their true selves? The 2022 midterms?

She does this, then loses, she wears the loser tag, and the momentum of the country goes counter to the blather she's been spewing.
She could make herself irrelevant.

ProfessorGAC
(65,337 posts)That's a pretty big leap.
The fallback ticket to a terribly unpopular and potentially disgraced president would win.
If, as is more likely with the cult of personality bubble burst, they get trounced, she was the second on a ticket that gets trounced.
Last point: assuming a Pence/Haley ticket would beat Biden seems poor form on DU.

(8,090 posts)She's been influential with right-wingers for decades, why wouldn't they listen now (but for the cult-iest of the MAGAts). Mitch isn't going to go down with the Trump ship, nor is he going to let the Senate go down.

(25,183 posts)Wow, it's true. She must be angling to get an even more reich-wing Senator from Kentucky six years from now.

(3,734 posts)is that we gave him the opportunity to remove trump and he held the Senate impeachment vote without calling a single witness, and rubber stamped the acquittal.
Watching Slimy Mitch desperately try to distance himself from trump would be delicious.
