...after they were out of office? For continued obstruction of justice?
What would it require?
Or should the Democrats just forget about it and move forward, if (they) win the next election?
Do crimes cease to exist whenever the Parties in the Congress switch power? Even up to, and including, treason?
Democrats have some decisions to make.

(115,947 posts)all of the others could be charged even now within the statute of limitations (5 years for most federal crimes). It's just that it won't happen until Barr is gone.

(111,111 posts)...should Barr be impeached?
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,947 posts)and Barr would be fired in another 2-1/2 months anyhow (until 1/20/21), so why bother?

(111,111 posts)After he is no longer protected by incumbency.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,947 posts)He wouldn't be removed from office by a GOP lame-duck senate after the election and he'll be gone in January anyhow. Since impeachment and conviction does nothing but remove someone from their job and he's got only 2-1/2 months left between the election and the end of Trump's term, what's the point, even if it worked, which it wouldn't? If you want him to have something to think about, figure out some crimes he can be charged with when the Trump administration is gone.

(111,111 posts)But what is required for that to happen?

(3,585 posts)Mr. Barr can be terminated, immediately!!!
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,947 posts)when a new administration takes over unless they are asked to stay. I would expect Barr to be gone by COB on the afternoon of 1/20/20.

(3,585 posts)Biden must and should do a purge within all Departments - and sadly, the whole DOJ must be looked at and cleaned up the evil that supported Trump.
And then, once Biden has his new head of the DOJ - unleash the Dogs of War.

(63,955 posts)just like how we didn't hold George Bush and Cheney for starting a war in Iraq. This was all planned and those DU'ers who in tune to these things said it began with Reagan.
These are crimes, I wish those white collars wouldn't save their asses, we have no justice for these white supremacists, but people like us get locked up. This injustice must end, we will see more protests. We need to be loud.

The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,947 posts)he was convicted; he was his 1972 re-election campaign manager and was convicted for crimes related to the Watergate coverup. And he was never pardoned. Instead, he served part of his sentence and was paroled after 19 months for medical reasons.

(7,547 posts)This would require control of the Senate. IMO there should be checks in place to prevent Justice from going rogue...not 'norms' which Rs will ignore when convenient, but real statutory road-blocks.
