So I'm eating dinner, getting ready to go meet a couple of acquaintances, and I see a youngish black fellow walking up my road. This is a rural area, and about 99.9% white, so I know he's not a local. I watch for a bit, and see him start to walk up my driveway, where he should have taken note of my "No Soliciting" sign. I'm in a hurry to eat and get to my meet, so I don't want to get tangled up in anything. I got up from the table, opened the garage door, and hobbled out on my crutch to see what he wanted. "Can I help you?"
"I'm with the tRump campaign...", and that was enough. I blasted him. "GET OFF MY PROPERTY NOW!" I heard him say something about "pro- second amendment," (that's digging his hole deeper for me). "GET OUT! And don't come back, and don't send any of your friends here!!"
He turned and started walking back the way he came. Five minutes later, I left in my car, and saw him still walking, about a quarter-mile from my house. As I passed him, I laid on the horn and flipped him off. Then I saw his car, parked just at my property line. I was in a hurry, but I stopped there long enough to get my phone out, rolled down my window, and pointed my phone at it like I was taking a picture of it.
I know I was rude as hell to him, and that's very unlike me, but dammit, I'm sick of that orange basturd, AND the people who support him! Not gonna tolerate it at my home!
Was I too rude?

(15,042 posts)but he has kids to feed. It's one of the reasons I'm pleasant with all solicitors, either those who come to my door or those who call on the phone. I reject them, firmly but politely. Who am I to judge?

(17,156 posts)I did solicitation jobs like that when I first came to this city. It got me a foothold, got me acquainted with the layout of the city; I actually became good at it, and generated positive references from the people I worked for. I also got hostile reactions like above; I was just a guy who needed to work, took what I could get, and got things going for myself.
Having been in that position myself, I can also imagine that maybe this guy could be in the same kind of situation. Sorry if my empathy outrages you.

(25,920 posts)and said he was with the Trump campaign, I'd ask, "Why? Don't you understand how much Trump and Republicans in general despise people who look like you?"

(28,127 posts)After all the BLM demonstrations and tRump's obvious racism on parade?
I would have asked how much he was being paid. He may have just been desperate for money?
IF he had said he was volunteering & supported 45, I then would have cursed him.

(672 posts)I think the Golden Rule applies here. One of the rules that tRump ignores and I certainly don't want to treat people the way he does.
Just my $0.02 worth.

(51,308 posts)If the young guy caught it on video, the OP might be famous now.
I found it odd the OP had to mention the young man's race and that's why he found the young man's presence uncomfortable.

(23,352 posts)Up to that point, it was just *ODD* because there is nearly ZERO AA population in my community, and very few people walk these roads--mostly because there aren't many people out here to begin with. I am not the LEAST bit uncomfortable due to his skin color.
