I have seen very little coverage of individual experiences so it feels abstract, distant.
This is part of the problem.
Logic and information doesn't impress Trumpanzees.
They need to be viscerally kicked in the gut with real world horror stories before they will take this seriously.
Why hasn't there been more personalization of the pandemic?

Even if they did, they'd probably declare it to be fake.

(14,926 posts)despite Rapist45's recent claim that covid is "harmless" for 99% of those who contract it. This harrowing story was in my local news today:

"NASHVILLE TENN. (WTVF) Ken Carden was reunited with his family Monday after spending more than 100 days in the hospital with COVID-19.
Carden is a pastor of a small church in Madison, a father of five and a grandfather of seven. He was admitted to the Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital on March 23 after unsuccessfully trying to treat his COVID-19 symptoms at home.
His family says while in the hospital, he battled multiple infections, pneumonia, and required two amputations. He was fully sedated for 54 days, on a ventilator for 68 days and in ICU for 75 days. His family could not visit him until the end of his stay in the hospital and his last two weeks of rehab.".....(more)

(27,821 posts)They've interviewed family members of people who have died from Covid.
Some of them have also devoted the last five minutes of their programs to show photos of those who have died, and to talk about who they were.
At the end of Anderson Cooper's show tonight, he talked about a couple who had been together for over 50 years, and died within a few minutes of each other, holding hands. He got really choked up as he spoke.

(26,045 posts)The issue is, so far, this isn't true for most people. Until it starts happening to family members or friends, it won't seem real, just a bunch of numbers far away. Since we know this is eventually coming, I'm only hoping that it will take friends or family merely testing positive/coming down with symptoms to wake people up, not that it will actually take deaths.

Tonight on MSNBC a doctor was on and he said 4 out of 5 kids with Covid show some brain damage. That is what we need to be hearing, besides the deaths. Younger people may bet a little more responsible if they hear these stories.

(16,391 posts)If someone doesn't want to believe something, it doesn't make any difference how many accounts are out there. Look at Sandy Hook and other mass casualties, there is still a group of people who believe it's all deep state and staged with professional tragedy actors.

(5,547 posts)Is that we haven't been impacted by famous deaths that would strike deep into the psyche of America. There have been some well known people lost but nobody who is a beloved well known name. That would really drive it home as well.
