The Ohio State Department of Athletics has announced all voluntary workouts on campus are paused following the results of its most recent COVID-19 testing of student-athletes.
Seven teams are affected by the workout stoppage: mens and womens basketball, field hockey, football, mens and womens soccer and womens volleyball.
The Department of Athletics said the university is not sharing COVID-19 information publicly as it could lead to identifying specific student-athletes and compromise their medical privacy.
The university says if student-athlete tests positive, they will self-isolate for at least 14 days and receive daily check-ups from medical staff.
If they live alone, they will isolate in their residence. If they have roommates, they will self-isolate in a designated room on campus, according to the university.

(25,926 posts)I had actually read that. I suspect they are simply the very first. I don't know a whole lot about college sports, but I'm going to guess that once some relatively minimal number of schools outside the Ivy League cancel, all of the rest will also.
I will also say, that although I'm not much of a fan of most sport, I have a lot of sympathy for the young men and women whose lives are being upended, who would have competed during this coming school year and gone on to professional careers which simply might not happen.

Maybe not, but it won't surprise me. And my guess is that they'll be a bunch of non-maskers too.

(25,926 posts)The fans of the Kansas City Chiefs are nearly world renowned for their tail gating. I understand that the network people who cover those games are delighted with a Kansas City assignment.
It's easy to imagine that even without any games this fall, fans will show up at Arrowhead Stadium to tailgate. While not wearing masks could be dumb, they will be outside in the open air which is vastly safer than being inside.
Oh. I just had a sudden thought. Are Catholic confessions still happening?
