Kaitlin Collins just reported that Dr. Fauci was told to go to the White House (Situation Room) and participate via Conference Call. The actual Task Force meeting and the press conference were at the Department of Education.
Anderson Cooper was clearly flabbergasted. He compared it to someone being sent to a utility closet while EVERYONE ELSE is at a meeting somewhere else or in another room.
Dr. Fauci did participate but from about a mile and a half away. Away from the press conference and cameras too of course.
Trump hasnt attended a Task Force meeting since April.

(7,447 posts)he isn't leading anything and he isn't making decisions and he isn't being listened to.
So what does it matter who replaces him?

(7,447 posts)regardless. He'd also have MUCH more freedom to give information to everyone if he weren't muzzled.
I get it, this is scary. People want the best folks working on it. But he's not. There's nothing he's directing or advising that's being listened to by the people in charge. If he were just a little less popular, he'd have been fired already. He might still be soon.
I think a resignation and the resulting freedom would do more to educate than sticking around with a muzzle.

get a national platform to say his bs.
And actually I doubt that anyways. At best he'll get a Birx who will try and thread the needle.

(89,244 posts)she has shown herself to be a coward that kisses his ass like most of the idiots in the administration.

(7,447 posts)would still likely be someone with some experience in the field, and likely to not go nuts, and if they did, it would be plenty obvious.
Birx is no Fauci, but she's also not gone completely nuts either.
She isn't saying masks aren't necessary and she isn't saying it's all under control.

What are you afraid of?

(7,447 posts)I don't have a response to that lol except to say Fauci can do more good out and unmuzzled than he can sitting there saying nothing and more importantly not being listened to or followed.
He didn't sign an NDA, he should resign, and testify to Congress.
Then once Trump loses he can come right back on and lead the effort properly.
right now, the "whore in an important position" on this issue is Trump himself anyways.

(5,857 posts)but he is using twitter and academic collogues to release numbers that aren't available without a FIOA request. He does more good staying there, looking at and interpreting the raw data, and feeding it to someone to publish in JAMA or similar than he would on the outside.
qazplm135
(7,447 posts)the data is pretty solidly in the pandemic area. The state numbers more than tell the story. This is so far gone it's well beyond some line where we need raw data.
What are the transmission profiles of bars vs schools vs churches in TX? That's not publicly available but the CDC has it. There are 100's of data points (if not thousands) for each state, none of which are made available to the general public. Occasionally you see a state or local health department worker release something that is relevant to them -- but only the Feds have a nationwide overview.
https://www.theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/news/coronavirus/article_5ccd9f98-c131-11ea-896e-2b83804f0cc6.html stat's like these aggregated could inform our opening, and Trump would never let them be published nationwide if they had to seek permission first. Slipping them to a friendly researcher can get the ball rolling and its public information so no criminal liability attaches.
qazplm135
(7,447 posts)with access to that stuff?
Come on. He's not Hodor.
And you have no evidence he's doing any "slipping" at all anyways.
AND I'm pretty sure he's still going to have contacts inside the CDC who can "slip" him information regardless.
but he's immune to outside pressure, unlike a lot of people at NIH due to his stature and the fact his retirement is vested. A new appointee would probably be a Trumper which would wreck havoc on grant funding, etc. The CDC is already controlled by a Trumper and I don't think they have held a press conference in months.
The question he's asking himself is is the NIH better with me at the head or a political appointee who will try to actively implement Trump's directions.
