State party officials and the rank and file are skeptical about the prospect of "miniconventions" across the nation as Covid cases surge.

First came the announcement of a downsized convention in Milwaukee that delegates were urged not to attend in person. Now, Democrats are questioning whether even gathering in smaller events throughout the country as an alternative is a plausible option after a new surge of Covid-19 cases.
With infection rates exploding in several states, some elected officials, state party leaders and rank-and-file members of the Democratic National Committee are skeptical about the proposed idea of mini-conventions across the nation regional satellite sites for delegates and party leaders, particularly in battleground states.
We should think, What would Dr. Fauci do? And I doubt Dr. Fauci would say go ahead and have mini-conventions across the country, said Rep. Ro Khanna, who is co-chairing the California delegation. I personally think it will backfire to be aggressive like the Republicans are.
The Republican National Committee said in June it would move its convention keynote events including President Donald Trumps acceptance speech to Jacksonville, Florida, after the party failed to come to an agreement with officials in North Carolina, where the event was set to be held in August. Jacksonville ranked third in the nation for metro area Covid-19 growth in the week ending June 27.

(29,322 posts)The content of the article doesn't seem very controversial to me. Coronavirus numbers are going up so I'm sure there is some concern about holding conventions and how to hold them. It seems reasonable to me that there would be.

No problems, no complications, no complaints, and most of all NO "jitters".
It's what logical, intelligent, sensible people do.

(16,646 posts)When did reasonable concern and consideration become the "jitters"?
Reminds me of the boss that was forever saying that "we don't have problems, we have challenges". I finally said one day, " No, challenges require effort, problems require solutions. We have problems. Once we have solutions, we might have challenges.".

(65,381 posts)And, "jitters"?
Why would there be jitters?
Just do everything locally, rent T3 lines, and work on- line. They'd get 45Mb per line.
Rent 40 lines for a week.
That's less than hotel costs would be, even at a limited size convention.

As usual Politico and a particular writer for Politico go out of their way to take gratuitous shots at our Democratic Party, including their choice for the photograph right under the headline!
Why not a photograph of our NOMINEE?????
Here's a much more appropriate photograph, considering the setting:

(42,862 posts)I believe that Otterbein was too emotionally invested in a candidate other than Biden, and now her disappointment (anger?) is manifesting itself in obvious ways that reflect poorly on her "abilities" as a "journalist". I'd long suspected that she was just a hack (an amateur HA Goodman, but not as polished) and articles like this only confirm and reinforce it to me.
