was going to rule against him in the tax return case. It might account for his coming off the rails even more than he usually does.
Just a thought. I would believe that they have inside info.

We know that Beer Boy and Ginny's Husband will vote that Trump is above the law. Alito too. But Roberts and Gorsuch may surprise us.

(33,915 posts)That's not the way courts work (generally).
Information is not shared from the Supreme Court to the executive branch - they are independent branches of government. The entire point of lifetime apointments is to remove the influence of politics. Many of the center to left strongholds are evidence that it works.
Clerks are not going to leak - it woud be career suicide. The higher up you are, the riskier leaking would be. I worked in a state appellate court when a couple of high profile cases went through. The only break in our normal routine in closely watched cases was that the cases were hand-delivered to the county courts that referred them - precisely to avoid the potential for early release of information. So a careful on-the-ground court watcher might have been able to tell that a decision was coming, but not what that decision was.

(33,915 posts)As was my spouse regarding everything case-related in the appellate court when I worked there, as were the spouses of everyone I worked for - or have been friends with who worked at my level or higher.
It is just baked in to the court culture. You don't talk about the cases with anyone other than the judges and fellow clerks. Period. If you haven't been part of it, you may find it hard to believe. But it is real.
Aside from which, one thing - alone - ought to convince you: Do you really thing that if Trump knew in advance he could avoid ranting/tweeting about i?

(115,280 posts)I also clerked for a state appellate court, and we were warned that we could not talk about our cases to anybody, not even spouses. Opinions, and even the dates when they were to be released, were closely-guarded secrets (although approximate release dates could be guessed from the calendar), and I have to assume the Supreme Court is at least as strict about confidentiality. As you said, any leak would be instant career suicide.

(115,280 posts)which I rub together periodically. There is a confidentiality culture that's so ingrained in the entire appellate court system (and I've been part of it so I know whereof I speak) that even Kavanaugh (who has already shown evidence of occasional fits of independence) isn't going to leak court decisions to anybody, not even the WH. Why would he? He has lifetime tenure and doesn't owe Trump anything. I also doubt that a frat boy like him would risk the loathing of the other Justices, with whom he will have to work for the rest of his life and who would never trust him with any information if he were found to be leaking.
