Are you proud to be an American today?

Or are you sick and embarrassed by your fellow Americans?

America is an idea.

Unfortunately, it has been poisoned by hatred, division, racism, and politics.

Perhaps it is "patriotic" to celebrate what America could have been? But there is no cause to celebrate what America is today.

The scab of racism has been removed by divisive politicians. Perhaps slavery is the "original sin" and nothing can be done to fix it or make it right?

I have always thought that there was no country on Earth except America where so many nationalities could gather under the idea of equality and opportunity and live happy and fulfilled lives. There was no greener grass.

But today, we see how truly fragile is the idea of America.

I feel absolutely no reason to celebrate this holiday. We have not flown an American flag since November 9th, 2016. That evil imbecile has turned this country into a disgrace and an international embarrassment.

and depressing it is to see the US--once the world's leader in public health now in the midst of major crisis with COVID after most developed nations have brought it completely under control. Sickening.

Especially when I think jealously of leaders like Angela Merkel, Justin Trudeau and Macron, and how we're viewed by citizens in allied countries, or hear a BBC or Sky News report about the state of things in our country.

I wonder if the damage can be repaired, and I shiver at the thought of four more years of Trump, which would destroy us irrevocably and forever.

This is my home, for all its flaws. And these are my people, even though I can't relate to many of them.

We really need to fix up the old homestead, and get the rats out of the kitchen.

We need to finally burn away the vestiges of the Confederacy and race hatred in this country. Now is the time. We need a government that acts in the interests of its people. All it’s people, not just those who are white and/or rich.

"Dr Fauci:
US CV-19 outbreak perpetuated due to locking down at 50% vs European countries at 97%"

Understanding the scope of Trump / GOP failure on CV-19:

"Florida w/21 mil ppl has 10,109 new CV-19 cases; EU plus 9 other countries w/2.6 bil ppl has 6,760

Source tweet:

Matt O'Brien
@ObsoleteDogma·Jul 2

"With a population of 21 million, Florida announced 10,109 new covid cases today.

With a combined population of 2.6 billion, China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Australia, and the European Union are averaging 6,760 new cases."

Can’t right now. The community band I play in has had its summer season canceled due to the pandemic. Today we’d be playing all kinds in of patriotic stuff leading up to the fireworks. Last few years while playing I kept thinking I’ve never felt less patriotic. Maybe next year.
