2 Texas counties urge residents to shelter in place as hospitals reach capacity

(CNN)Hospitals in at least two Texas counties are at full capacity heading into the Fourth of July holiday weekend, with county judges urging residents to shelter in place.

Judges in Starr and Hidalgo counties sent out emergency alerts Friday, warning residents that local hospitals in the Rio Grande Valley were at capacity.

Judge Eloy Vera said there have been 18 deaths in Starr County due to Covid-19 and two severely ill patients had to be flown out of the area for treatment. One of the patients was taken to San Antonio and the other to Dallas, the judge said in the post on Facebook. .......(more)

every indicator dealing with Covid is a lagging indicator. People don't show symptoms for days to weeks after infection. By then, they've infected others. When people go into the hospital, their stays are likely to be weeks longer than expected with flu or other illnesses, and the same with time on incubators. Everything takes longer than hospitals are used to dealing with. When hospitals are full, it's already too late to "contain" or "mitigate" the spread.

That's the lesson of Italy and NYC, which obviously has been lost on Repub governors around the country.

The brute force method of locking people down and closing the economy is the only tool that works when shit is that bad, and it looks like it is getting that bad in numerous parts of Texas and Florida, among other areas.

They may have been successful, but they won't know until afterwards.

Some people like top-down organization, where the top leader controls what happens below and enforces central edicts. The word I've seen for this in the last few months is "grassroots."

Others prefer less central control where what happens is more under the control of leaders directly responsible to locals for being elected. (And the word I've seen for this in the last couple of months is "fascist." Isn't language change fascinating?)

.

One of the early New Republican stooges is F. A. Hayek, and after he left Germany, he tried to sell that shit that fascism is an extension of Marxism and leads to Communism.

Anyone who uses the word fascism in a manner that realigns it from conservative to liberal is either woefully ignorant or they are doing the work of Republicans and Russians to deflect.
