Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsEvery American has been duly warned about coronavirus.
The choice is now upon them.
It now seems that the more they are cautioned to wear masks and to maintain safe distancing, the more they rebel against it. It has become counter-productive to warn them further. Leave them with their decisions.
That would be the easy way to go.
However, it would mean that they would be a threat to everyone else. They would carelessly spread the virus to others that they might come into contact with. There could be many more deaths. We would be dependent on the "herd immunity" strategy to control the virus.
The careless and reckless disregard for others lives is incomprehensible.
Why can't we realize that we are all in this crisis together?

(32,017 posts)99.9% of those who tout rugged individualism couldnt survive off the grid, but they think they could, mainly because they take government for granted (roads, water, sanitation, the power grid, and a whole long list of other things as well).
Theirs is a silly, naive argument, but its quite pervasive.

(12,481 posts)They, the resistance to wearing a mask, they ultimately endanger everyone in the community thus I tend to engage in education...but to no success...Maybe I'm planting seeds so to speak...yet, it is no doubt, too late for change...I just focus every day on my COVID-19 Protocols/Protective Standards.

(25,927 posts)I do go grocery shopping, and I have two different friends I get together with every week or two. This morning my friend Robert texted this: Greetings to you, Poindexter, and wishing you a safe and quiet Fourth. . . I shall be content to sit this weekend out and protecting my little doggies.
Usually we go for a drive and have lunch somewhere on Saturday or Sunday. Only these days we only eat out on a patio.
I texted back that I thought sitting out the weekend is the best way for us to honor the holiday.

I don't need to be struck down in my Golden Years by an asshole who won't wear a mask.
