Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIn 60s, someone published the Bill of Rights. Responders claimed they were communists!!
Some commenting maintained the reaction revealed how poorly American history was being taught.
I, along with many others, believed that the reaction revealed sometheing much more dangerous. It revealed how many people did NOT agree with the basic concepts of America.
IIRC, the 1st Amendment got by far the largest numbers of attacks. There were many, many things responders believed no one had the right to say.
At the time, the 2nd was not a big deal

Now if people disagree with you they call you a Karen.

I don't think very many white people could make it 2 hours being POC. They can be so fragile and delicate sometimes.

In the 60's we were all really afraid of a nuclear war breaking out. It was a very real fear. I wore dog tags
I had nightmares of bombs falling all around me. We had drills at school but everyone knew they were useless.
The Communists were a very real threat. At least in our imaginations. So calling someone a Commie was a terrible thing.
I don't really understand the terrible fear that the Trumoers have. Liberals and Democrats are the new Commies. A horrible threat.
