So I stayed up well past midnight reading DU. Any of you that I responded to please excuse me if I was not my normally polite self! I drank more wine than I realized and smoked too many cigars.
Anyway, I had to get up early this morning to smoke a pork shoulder for pulled pork. It takes 12 hours. Independence Day is tomorrow you know.
So now Ive got a feeling I used to know well. Kind of a headache, scratchy but not really sore throat. Tired. The whole nine yards. And Im sitting in the garage tending my smoker and worrying. Which is stupid because I know the reason I feel less than optimum.
I just realized that one of the thing I hate the most about the virus is anytime I feel in anyway off, as all 54 year old men do at times, I get worried Ive got it.
Yall stay safe. Vote like your life depends on it because apparently it does.

(95,243 posts)Though for me it is mostly the latter stages of a bout of insomnia. This morning, after managing only about three hours sleep in the last twenty, things were feeling a wee bit off, headache, tickle in the throat, that sort of thing. Bodily need finally took over and waking up this afternoon I felt fine.

(11,949 posts)I used to think I had insomnia. What I had was sleep Apnea. Real bad. I got on CPAP 10 years ago. My doctor said had I not I would have been dead by 50. Im not obese and never fell asleep during the day. But I stopped breathing 47 times an hour while sleeping.
I know you are probably good to go and Im not trying to pry into your personal life. Too many men are embarrassed to talk about what is a true life threatening condition so I always do. Ive talked 4 people into getting the test. And all are now on treatment.
You have an enjoyable and safe Independence Day.

(9,644 posts)I started having breathing issues in my late forties. And I had to have the test. It came back negative for sleep apnea. But I would still stop breathing in the middle of the night.
It didn't happen every night. So I started playing detective to try to figure out what was different on the nights where I had breathing issues. Turns out it was alcohol. Anytime I had wine in the evening, I would stop breathing when I was sleeping.
I quit drinking wine and I have not had one episode since then. I'll be turning 64 next month.
I really love a good glass of wine. And I miss it. But I sure don't miss dreaming that I'm being suffocated and then waking up realizing I'm not breathing.
As for that hangover, I feel for you!
In my younger days, oh boy.

(95,243 posts)I do not snore, I have witnesses.
An active mind keeps me going sometimes till the physical asserts itself.
I appreciate your concern, however. I know that is a serious condition.

(11,949 posts)Even now when work is out of control I have some trouble. Maybe once every 6 months.
Take care.

(12,370 posts)I love feeling great in the mornings (I quit two weeks ago) but I miss the feeling of the stem of a wine glass in my fingers so now Im drinking my sparkling water from my usual Sauvignon Blanc glass.

(3,413 posts)1 packet (2 tabs) Alka-seltzer dissolved in a cup of water (= aspirin and sodium bicarbonate, good for headache and upset stomach)
in 1/2 hour, follow with a tall icy glass of Dr. Pepper (sugar and caffeine, good for what ails ya!)
if you keep that down, follow with your favorite protein meal/snack
Works for me!

(11,949 posts)I only drank a 750ml bottle over 5 hours.
It just anytime I feel off I get concerned. More for the wife than I.
It been a decade since I had a raging hangover. Just cant drink that much anymore.
Have an enjoyable Independence Day.

(32,626 posts)what's wrong with me. I always drank too much, and countless numbers of diseases could have passed through me, with me never knowing. The Irish Virus is the only thing that got me.

(11,949 posts)I drank a bottle of wine over 4-5 hours.
When I was in my real drinking days that would have been a warm up!
Have a nice Independence Day.

I like the Gatorade idea as well. If you don't like Gatorade that much, alternate it with water.
Personally, I like enchiladas the day after after too much wine, as well as water, vitamins, Gatorade, salty snacks, etc.

(3,522 posts)I finally ran out and bought a thermometer and would take my temperature 3-4 times a day. After a week of that I stopped worrying and now it sits in the medicine cabinet unused. Funny how the mind can get you worried!
Of course, now they say asymptomatic Covid wont show up as a fever, so something else to worry about!

(587 posts)My husband was diagnosed with covid on Tuesday, he went to the Dr with all the symptoms including loss of balance, coughing, etc. 2 nights ago I had a few glasses of red wine which never goes well for me, and I woke up yesterday feeling terrible. Really lethargic and headachy. I was certain it was a hangover but it just didn't go away like they normally do with excedrin and Gatorade. Then today I wake up and I'm feeling fine. My husband is doing a little better, not coughing as much just really wiped out feeling. But yeah, I was convinced yesterday that I got covid. I still don't know if I'm asymptomatic or not.

(11,949 posts)The wife is at more more risk than I. I dont Know what I would do if I got it. Cant really afford a hotel for 2 weeks.

(587 posts)We live in a small 2 bedroom apartment in DC, so we're together constantly. We figure if one of us gets it it's inevitable the other will get it anyway. My father lives in a veterans hospital in NY and has tested positive also but is asymptomatic. I'm not sure if this is something that runs in families or not and I'll be ok.
