I'm humbled that Kentucky Democrats have nominated me to take on Mitch McConnell in November, and I can't wait to get started in sending him into retirement.
Let me start by thanking you, (and each and every person who helped build this campaign). Without supporters like you, we wouldnt be heading into the general election ready to give Mitch the fight of his political life.
I also want to thank every candidate who stepped up to run in this race. Running for office is not an easy task, and it requires a lot of commitment and sacrifice. You are all patriots.
Like so many Kentuckians, I was and am inspired by the powerful movement Charles Booker built toward the causes of defeating Mitch McConnell and fighting systemic racism and injustice in our country. He tapped into and amplified the energy and anger of so many who are fed up with the status quo and are rightfully demanding long-overdue action and accountability from our government and institutions.
And I commend Mike Broihier, who has served his country and his commonwealth in so many waysas a Marine, a farmer, a teacher and a candidate who was dedicated to representing each and every Kentuckian.
I am proud to have been in this race with these candidates. I look forward to seeking their help, guidance, and advice for the bigger fight ahead of us.
The issues our primary election focused on arent going away. Our system isnt working for everyday Kentuckians, and we need elected officials who have the courage to meaningfully tackle the legal, educational, and health inequities that continue to prevent true racial and socio-economic equality in our country.
Thats the kind of senator I intend to be.
As a woman in the military, I learned quickly that Id have to repeatedly fight the establishment during my 20-year career. No one will ever need to convince me how urgently our state and country need equal pay and equal justice, affordable health care for all, action to protect our voting rights, and an end to the corrosive grip that corporate special interests have on our federal government.
That work starts by removing Mitch McConnell from office. And Ill be honest: doing so was never going to be an easy task. The only way we can overcome the odds is by coming together to build something bigger than just one candidate. Thats why I will work hard to earn the trust and support of as many Kentuckians as I can, including those who voted for someone else in last weeks primary.
There is far too much at stake, and its on all of us to fight for it. Mitch McConnell has destroyed our institutions for far too long, and hell keep on doing it as long as Kentucky voters let him.
Remember this: Last November, Kentuckians didnt hesitate to replace an incompetent and unpopular incumbent Republican. This November, were going to do it one more time.

(149,560 posts)And I'm even more proud to continue to support her as she tackles MoscowMitch head on!
I hope she'll pull out all the stops to defeat this bastard who long ago put his own self-interest above those of Kentucky.
And I also hope that her opponent will join her by endorsing her in this vital race.

(7,681 posts)In an interview published on Wednesday, McGrath told the Louisville Courier Journal she "probably" would've voted to confirm Kavanaugh. That ran contrary to what she had posted on social media following Kavanaugh's nomination in summer 2018.
"I was very concerned about Judge Kavanaugh, what I felt like were the far-right stances that he had. However, there was nothing in his record that I think would disqualify him in any way," McGrath said in Wednesday's interview. "And the fact is when you have the President and the Senate, this is our system and so I don't think there was anything that would have disqualified him in my mind."
McGrath added of Ford's allegations, "I think it's credible but given the amount of time that lapsed in between and from a judicial standpoint, I don't think it would really disqualify him."
"I think that with Judge Kavanaugh, yeah, I probably would have voted for him," she said.

(7,681 posts)so vote for Mitch? Amy is our fucking candidate, dude! Get on board. We can do this. Check your negativity at the door.
I was responding to a post that said hope she's not another Manchin. This quote indicates she may be just that.
It's relevant, on topic, and not "negative" - it's simply reality.

(53,061 posts)If we have to have 5 Manchins to get The Majority I would be fine
With that.
Sinema isn't much better than Manchin but Neill take her to get the Majority
Fortunately all of our challengers seem to be better than those 2.

(11,949 posts)If that gives us the majority.
Kentucky is not going to elect the same type of democrat as California.
She gives us the best shot, in my opinion.
Have a nice evening.

She needs our support, the country's support to remove that rubber-stamping, constitutional-traitor/criminal McConnell.
He's there, like tRump, only to enrich himself.

Remember, even if Amy doesn't succeed in ousting McConnell, if the Dems win enough other Senate races, his days as Majority Leader will be over - he'll just be another asshole republican Senator in the minority.

(33,509 posts)These are people who have been sending the likes of Moscow Mitch to the Senate for a very long time, even though he's unpopular in Kentucky. This is because it's painful for many of them to vote for a Democrat, at all, never mind a leftist Democrat.
You seem to believe that Democrats control Kentucky, and that the Democrats there are all extremely liberal.
If we don't have cross over votes in Kentucky, we don't win, period. Governor Beshear, won narrowly in Kentucky, and the Kentucky legislature is overly Republican, because, um, the State is overwhelmingly Republican.
There are people, of course, who think that Bernie Sanders would sweep, say, Alabama, Oklahoma because he's so damned right about everything. I personally think that Bernie Sanders is something of a self absorbed lunatic.
I don't think that Bernie Sanders would do well in Kentucky because he would motivate white Democrats based on his whiteness.
Moscow Mitch is possibly the worst Senator since John Calhoun; his place in history will be recorded as such. He has as actively worked to destroy the US constitution and the United States overall as did Calhoun.
I am probably closer, personally, in political philosophy to Booker than I am to McGrath.
But I want Moscow Mitch removed, and I am simply paying attention to the fact that Kentucky, as a whole, is far to the right of me. Otherwise, they wouldn't have been sending Moscow Mitch to destroy the infrastructure of this country term after term after term.
It is obvious that in Kentucky, racism is a more powerful force than it is where I live in New Jersey, although clearly there are a lot of racists in New Jersey, regrettably. However, Kentucky has been sending a virulent racist, Moscow Mitch, to the Senate for a very long time.
I have no use for racists, but if the price of removing a horrible and powerful excuse for a human being like Moscow Mitch from the Senate is to not achieve a demonstration of total reversal of Kentucky racism from the face of the earth dramatically - something that won't happen - I'll take the possible over the ideal.
As it is, Ms. McGrath is not favored to win. She has some ground to make up, and I hope, given that Moscow Mitch has coddled a Russian agent, Donald Trump, who is OK with bounties on US service people, I just think she has the best chance of defeating the Senate's most active racist, Moscow Mitch.
OK?

(22,035 posts)I think she should make this a big issue. It will indeed resonate, with her military background, for Kentuckians. McConnell has trump stink all over him.
I would like to see her spend more time over in the western and southern part of the state now.
