Fauci: 'We are going in the wrong direction...it could get really bad,' sees 100k/day in new cases

If present trends continue:

America’s leading public health expert Anthony Fauci has confirmed what the record figures are telling us – the US is sliding backwards on its handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

“We are going in the wrong direction,” Fauci just told the Senate.

Last week the US saw a new daily record of 40,000 new coronavirus cases in one day.

Fauci just said, in testimony before committee, that he fears that the rate will rise dramatically.

“I would not be surprised if we go up to 100,000 a day if this does not turn around.”

Fauci added about death and infection rates going forward: It’s going to be very disturbing … it could get really bad.”

It IS bad.

I liked Fauci in the beginning, but I think he's a toadie for the toddler in chief now.

I hesitate to call him a "toady" for Trump. He has pretty consistently been candid and forthright with the best information available.

He stood right there as they said masks were not helpful. That was not candid, nor forthright.

He stood right behind Pence when Pence was saying the virus was going away. I could go on.

I remember it well.

History will judge all these people.

not upsetting Trump so badly that he is silenced. That is not an enviable position.

But even she is starting to think he's not stepping up to the plate like he should.

Birx, Fauci, Redfield are all responsible for how this has gone sideways.

We might as well say the entire population is going to get some version of the virus. Pretty bleak outlook.

who will be vaccinated only about 160,000,000 Americans will get it. I don't even want to try to guess the number of deaths.

But rec'd it is.

at 100,000/day that would be approximately 5,000 dead/day.

What the ever-loving fuck.

But, only one reason.
The recent spikes involve much younger people who are dying from it at a much, much lower fraction.
That said, even if it's 25% of that, 1,250 dead per day is pretty darned bad! That's 450,000 dead over a full year.

so there is a log as the virus spreads from young to old, and then the death rate reverts back to its average.

But, older people, by & large are acting fairly responsibly, so they can still protect themselves.
The death rate here in Illinois has continued to drop and is 5 now. It was up to 8 at one point. And almost 1/6th were older people in care facilities.
Yesterday, we had 738 cases & 14 deaths, so under 2%.
Not that it's a good thing, but many of the most vulnerable have died. This, sadly, leaves a population of fewer highly vulnerable.
So, as long as people don't go full on stupid, the rate should fall below the 5% we've seen overall.
But, like I said, even 25% of that is still a brutal number of deaths.

own this mess = from day one.
Which sane person would appoint the failed mother's boy to head a task force on anything as serious as Covid-19. From they mentioned his name DUers and others were pointing out the mess he caused in Indiana.

This was and is an epic fucking fail.
