Aurora police breakup violin vigil with excessive force

Last edited Tue Jun 30, 2020, 12:45 PM - Edit history (1)

This is an outrage! There is no excuse for this. The head of their department needs to be fired.

>> Cops in Aurora, CO came in like a military unit to forcibly remove -- not to mention pepper spray -- peaceful protesters who were watching a violin performance to honor Elijah McClain.

This went down Saturday in City Center Park, where a musical vigil had been planned to pay respects to Elijah -- who died while in custody of Aurora PD last year -- which was incredibly symbolic, seeing how Elijah played violin himself. At one point, the police had seen enough.

In the video, captured by a vigilant bystander, you can see the jarring juxtaposition play out live on camera. At first, you hear the violinists -- some of whom are said to have been underage -- beautifully playing in unison, and the next minute ... cops are storming the place.

The woman recording can be heard -- along with others -- openly yelling "No!" at what's about to happen next ... forcible removal and literally pushing the protesters out of the park, while shutting down the performance. Pepper spray started getting dispersed at one point too.

That's how you get to a total police state. It's one step at a time. Or should I say one jackboot to the face at time.

That stops or we do.

What part of "This is an outrage! There is no excuse for this. The head of their department needs to be fired." would indicate anything like that?

my comment is directed at those who see this sort of behavior and can still not understand why we must defund the police.

I thought this was a very good example of why the police need to be cut back and controlled. In no way did I mean to imply that you are for police violence or to insult you in any way. Thank you for showing us this and again I apologize.

How do you know they didn't have arrows in their so-called violin "cases"?

I wonder who gave the orders to the cops to bust up the vigil, or if they were just free-lancing? This is another way you can tell which lives matter in our society: If your memorial vigil gets raided by the cops, the life being memorialized didn't matter. Can you imagine one of those police motorcades for a fallen officer getting disrupted?

(He died of overdose of the ketamine police gave him)

https://sentinelcolorado.com/news/metro/unlikely-suspect-those-who-knew-elijah-balk-at-aurora-police-account-of-his-death/

McClain was 23. He had been a massage therapist for about four years. He lived in the neighborhood with a cousin. He was black.

He’d just left a gas station to buy soft drinks, and was walking home.

What followed was a mysterious — and his family says, brutal — encounter with police that racked McClain with an apparent heart attack, a coma and ultimately his death on Aug. 30. Police body camera footage reviewed by McClain’s family and lawyer shows police officers putting McClain in a chokehold and forcing him onto the ground for 15 minutes before injecting him with a sedative, ketamine, they say.
