NBC - Trump says 'biggest risk' to re-election is not stopping increased mail-in voting

LINK

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump says in an interview that the "biggest risk" to his re-election prospects in November is increased mail-in voting and whether he can win lawsuits to stop its expansion.

"My biggest risk is that we don't win lawsuits," Trump said in an Oval Office interview Thursday with Politico that focused on the 2020 race.

"We have many lawsuits going all over. And if we don't win those lawsuits, I think — I think it puts the election at risk," he added.

..except it has nothing to do with lawsuits. The GOP will simply defund the USPS. So my question to DU and progressives - what's the backup plan? Work under the assumption there will be no mail service to deliver ballots. How do we get those voters to the polls and get their ballots to the ballot boxes?

He can't defund the Post Office all by himself. Funding comes from Congress; and even if they were going to do it, which I doubt very much, they couldn't do it by the time of the election.

They can hurt it financially as they did in 2006 with the poison pill in funding retirement plans for 75 years in advance. They cannot however "defund" it because the government does not fund the post office. Operations are funded by sales of postage.

There have been shortfalls in the USPS budget, mostly because of having to fund those pensions for people who aren't even born yet. They did ask for a loan to keep operations funded during COVID-19 like everyone else has. By some restructuring, the post office could be running in the black normally. What they need is to repeal that stupid 2006 funding requirement and other obstacles that were put in their path.

The post office will be around in November and will be delivering mail as normal.

However, I do understand your post and we should be working to increase voting by any means. We need to hit up Bloomberg and anyone else with money, to fund massive registration and GOTV efforts with transportation, monitoring polling sites, etc... We have to have massive ground games in every state. All the rich Never Trumpers need to put their money into getting out the vote. The ads are cool and all, but we need everyone out to vote.

It’s Trump, so I assume he’s counting on Russia’s help again.

With polls showing dump in deep trouble they will need to shift to gin up some kind of narrative to keep it entertaining for viewers.

There hasn't been any in-person voting for years and years.

Does that mean Trump wants to take right to vote away from Oregonians?

and my county also has scads of drop box locations for ballots. They don't HAVE to be mailed, although they can be. I drop mine off at city hall.

is a threat to tRump? Normal patriotic folks would be celebrating those rights. Once again, tRump is crossways with a system he pledged to honor and uphold.

They are easy to persuade that we might just throw their mail in ballots away.

I want them to only vote in person. Which means a lot won’t bother to vote.
