In his monologue he said this:

“They’re calling it ‘Defund the Police,’ which sounds bad! That is so Democrats for you. They must have meetings to be this fucking stupid about politics. ‘Hey, guys, we’re making some headway here, um, how can we turn this into something that makes people have to vote for Trump?'”

He also brought this up later in the show.

I find this curious in that I was unaware of the party or any major Democrat supporting the policy or using the slogan. Am I mistaken?

I do not watch much tv, so only catch the clips posted here. But I do not have a problem with him. Hearing different points of view is essential, imo, even if I disagree. And he often makes good points.

We already had feckless "reform the police" measures, replete with toothless compliance panels, body cameras and racial sensitivity training—none of them worked.

So now the message is "you actually change for the better, or you're done."

And besides, do you keep funding an organization that solves less than half of violent crimes, and less than a fifth of property crimes? You keep funding that organization while other organizations that actually help people are starved of funds?

The police are simply having their turn in the barrel. The pressure campaign is useful.

Until he starts complaining about folks being at home Sbd staring how we need to get back out there. I cannot remember the last time I watched a full episode. Anyone who states we need to be opened back up makes me wince. Folks listen to people like that. I cannot back putting our citizens in danger.

20. I've been a Maher fan for two decades

I’ve seen him live multiple times and have kept my HBO subscription largely because of his show.

However, it’s become clear to me that Bill is sort of a shadow of what he once was. His opinions are often uninformed. He consistently uses outdated polling data anytime that subject comes up. He has flogged this Trump won’t leave paranoia for 3 years despite being told by literally dozens of guests that it won’t happen yet he won’t take no for an answer.

He’s increasingly gotten more bitter over the virus I suspect because a huge portion of his income has dried up and will likely be gone for a long time.


The never ending drum beat of how the “Democrats are doing it wrong” has become tiresome. And bizarrely every one of his recent shows has ended with a 15 minute diatribe about how fat people are making corona worse and how his diet is great and everyone else is a slob. There is usually some health “expert” on to assist in the g
fat shaming.

So yeah, I think like a lot of people who stayed too long Bill has lost his fastball and really isn’t worth listening to anymore. I’m done.

is from doing stand up. With everything closed he's not making that money. So it's in his self interest to push for reopening.
